BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After recording his second career hat trick and scoring a career-high seven points in Lehigh's league-opening win over American, senior forward Jack Sarkos was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. This is the second career Offensive Player of the Week award for Sarkos, who has had a hand in all six Lehigh goals scored so far this season.
Â
Sarkos opened the scoring in the 40th minute, taking a pass from first-year Jarman Reilly just outside the six-yard box and putting a right-footed shot past the American goalkeeper into the lower left corner.
Â
The Margate City, N.J. native doubled Lehigh's lead in the 60th minute when he slid in on American goalkeeper Lorenzo Gordon's clearance attempt and deflected the ball into the net.
Â
Sarkos assisted on first-year Jason Pynadath's first career goal in the 77th minute with a textbook give-and-go passing combination before completing the hat trick four minutes later after putting a shot past Gordon after a miscue in American's back line left him alone with the ball in the box.
Â
Lehigh (1-3-1) opened Patriot League play with a convincing 4-0 win over an Eagle team that won the Patriot League in the spring of 2021 and was runner-up last fall.
Â
With five goals and an assist in 2022, Sarkos now has 14 goals and 31 points in his career.
Â
In addition to Sarkos, sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Gross earned honorable mention recognition after making four saves and backstopping Lehigh's first clean sheet of the season.
Â
Lehigh will host Delaware Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in non-league action before heading to Loyola on Saturday to face the defending Patriot League champion Greyhounds.
Â
Delaware is 2-4-1 on the season and looking to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Elon on Saturday. Sam Donnellan leads the Blue Hens with four goals and is the reigning CAA Rookie of the Week.
Â
Lehigh leads the all-time series versus Delaware 36-17-5. The Blue Hens claimed the most recent meeting 1-0 in 2016.
Â
Loyola is 2-2-2 and the Greyhounds will travel to Princeton on Tuesday before hosting Lehigh Saturday at 3 p.m. The Greyhounds dropped their league-opener at Army West Point on Saturday by a 2-1 score. Kelan Swales has scored three of Loyola's six goals this season.
Â
The Greyhounds have won the last two meetings, both by 2-1 scores, to take a 5-4 lead in the series.
Â
Both of Lehigh's matches this week will be broadcast on ESPN+.
