Mountain Hawks Close Road Trip at St. John's Friday Evening

9/1/2022 6:21:00 PM | Men's Soccer

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Playing its third straight game on the road to open the season, the Lehigh men's soccer team heads to Queens on Friday night to take on St. John's at Belson Stadium with a 5 p.m. kickoff. The matchup will be streamed live on ESPN+ (subscription required).

The Mountain Hawks (0-2) are still searching for their first win and goal of the season after being out-scored 3-0 in the previous pair of matchups to Temple (1-0) and UMBC (2-0).

Against the Retrievers on Monday night, Lehigh tallied six shots with just one on goal (first-year Jarman Reilly). Senior forward Jack Sarkos registered four of the Mountain Hawks' six shots for the night as first-year goalkeeper Tommy Chyzowych made seven saves in his collegiate debut despite giving up scores from Alek Wroblewski ('46) and Ryan Becher ('88).

Lehigh is still averaging 9.5 shots per game, nearly even with the opposition so far (10.0).

First-year defender Sam Davis will return to the pitch after missing the last game due to being red carded in the opener at Temple. Sophomore forward Perry Kingson will miss Friday night's game after being sent off Monday in Baltimore.

St. John's is also in search of its first victory of the 2022 season after falling to Monmouth on the road and No. 18 FIU. The Red Storm have also been without a tally so far after finishing on the losing end of two 1-0 finals.

Both Ryan Foley and Zenden Hart have found time at goalkeeper through the team's first couple games, both making two saves each and each giving up a goal.

The Johnnies were picked to finish third in the Preseason Big East Poll, while ranked No. 25 in TopDrawerSoccer's Preseason Top 25. Brandon Knapp, a three-time All-Big East selection, was named a Preseason All-Big East honoree after leading the Red Storm with five goals and six assists in 2021.

Lehigh is 5-0 all-time against St. John's in a series that dates all the way back to 1929. The Mountain Hawks last topped the Johnnies in Queens, 1-0 during the 2018 campaign.
