Mountain Hawks Drop First League Match to Navy, 5-2

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Mountain Hawks battled Navy on Sunday at Ulrich Tennis Courts but were unable to come out on top, falling to the Midshipmen 5-2. Lehigh lost its first match in league play, moving to 2-1 on the season.

The Mountain Hawks started off the match on the right foot, winning the first doubles match of the day. First-year Marc Blekhman and junior Jeremy Learner secured the win at the No. 2 spot, defeating Navy's Sasha Panyan and Gavin Segraves 6-3. Lehigh was unable to hold onto the momentum and went on to drop the remaining two doubles matches.

During singles play, the Mountain Hawks continued to battle with the Midshipmen to try and secure their third win of league play. Lehigh was unable to contain Navy and lost the first three matches of singles play before junior Matt Kleiman stepped up and secured the victory. Kleiman defeated Jake Fishkin 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot to earn his eighth win of the season.

Senior Zack Elliott was the last Mountain Hawk to grab a win on Sunday. Elliott defeated Derrick Thompson 7-6 (3), 6-4, 11-9 at the No. 1 spot to hand Thompson his first career loss in league play.

The Mountain Hawks will return home to host Lafayette in the Rivalry presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute. The match will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
