Lehigh Drops One On Spring Break, Did Not Finish Second Due to Weather

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Lehigh women's tennis team began its Spring Break with two matches in Hilton Head on Tuesday. The Mountain Hawks dropped the first match to George Mason and did not finish the second match against South Carolina State due to inclement weather.Â
George Mason started off the match strong, picking up the doubles point early. Sophomores Anushka and Megha Dania grabbed a win at the No. 2 spot in doubles. The duo defeated George Mason's Savanna Crowell and Francesca Trella 6-3.Â
Down one going into singles, the Mountain Hawks tried their hardest to come back and pick up the win. Junior Junmoke James picked up a win in the second flight against Hannah Yang from George Mason. James defeated Yang 6-2, 6-4. Megha and Anushka Dania picked up wins during singles play too. Megha defeated Ashley Fitz-Patrick 7-5, 6-0 at the third flight. Anushka picked up the win against George Mason's Jackie Nanney 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot.Â
Lehigh took on South Carolina State in its second match of the day in Hilton Head. The Mountain Hawks got off to a hot start, winning two doubles matches. First-year Hamsa Javagal and James defeated Vujicic and Patnaik 6-3 in the first flight. The Dania duo picked up their second doubles win of the day, defeating Berjane and Silva 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.Â
The Mountain Hawks only completed two singles matches before the match was canceled due to rain with Lehigh trailing 3-2. James picked up her second win of the day in singles, defeating South Carolina State's Teodara Vujicic 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the second flight.Â
The Lehigh women's tennis team will head back to Bethlehem to prepare for Patriot League play. The Mountain Hawks will travel to Loyola on March 19 to compete in their first league match of the season.Â
