Bennett Named Patriot League Men's Rookie of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh men's track and field athlete Jonathan Bennett was named Patriot League Men's Rookie of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office Tuesday afternoon.Â
Bennett had himself an impressive weekend in his first dual meet against rival Lafayette. The Washington state native competed in three events on Saturday. He grabbed a first-place finish in every event as well PRs in two of the three events.Â
After his impressive performance on Saturday, the first-year is now second all-time in the 60m hurdles (8.18) and third all-time in the 60m (6.95). At the Villanova Invitational, Bennett grabbed a PR in the 200m leaving him tied for eighth all-time (22.32).Â
Fellow first-year Melissa Cunningham and junior Ian Scott were named Patriot League Honorable Mention as well. Cunningham finished first in both the 60m (7.75) and the 200m (25.94) in her first rivalry meet. Scott finished first in the triple jump (13.84m), tied for first in the high jump (2.00m) and second in the long jump (6.95m).Â
Bennett is looking to continue building on his success at the upcoming Dr. Sander Invitational at the Armory in New York. The Mountain Hawks will compete in the two-day meet on Feb. 4-5.Â
