Lehigh continues series with Navy Wednesday at Stabler Arena

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's basketball team continued upon its winning ways on Saturday afternoon following a 72-61 victory at Loyola Maryland, snapping season-long two game losing streak. On Wednesday, the Mountain Hawks (11-5, 3-2 PL) take on Navy (5-11, 2-4 PL) for the first time in two years at Stabler Arena, tipping off at 6 p.m.

Four Lehigh players finished in double-figures against the Greyhounds led by 15 points for both sophomore Mackenzie Kramer and first year Ella Stemmer. Emma Grothaus finished with 12 points while Megan Walker had 10.

The Mountain Hawks were just two 3-pointers shy of tying the program and Patriot League record for 3-pointers made in a game with 14 against Loyola. They shot 44.4 percent (24-for-54) from the field and 40 percent (14-for-35) from beyond-the-arc in the win. Lehigh finished with the edge in second chance points (7-5), points off fast breaks (11-4) and bench points (26-22), while holding Loyola to just 23.5 percent (4-for-17) from long range.

Lehigh remains one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the country this season, ranking sixth as a program in 3-pointers attempted (476), seventh in 3-pointers made (158) and seventh in 3-pointers made per game (9.9). The Mountain Hawks are also the 11th best free-throw shooting team in the nation at 78.0 percent.

Individually, Kramer ranks fifth in NCAA DI in 3-pointers made (52), sixth in 3-pointers made per game (3.25) and 13th in 3-pointers attempted (126).

Navy has struggled so far this season, but has boasted arguably the best player in the Patriot League in senior Jennifer Coleman.

The Midshipmen are 2-4 in league play this year, most recently coming off a loss to unbeaten Boston University on Saturday. Navy's two wins were at Bucknell on Jan. 5 and at Colgate on Jan. 12. Navy is 3-3 away from home overall this season so far.

Coleman starred for Navy against the Terriers, scoring a game-high, career-high 32 points on 13 field goals with four assists and two steals, also grabbing 16 rebounds. She also scored 23 points with 10 boards and five assists at Colgate and was named Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday for the third time this season. Sydne Watts also impressed against Boston U. with 20 points and six rebounds.

Navy shot 40.9 percent (27-for-66) from the field and 35.3 percent (6-for-17) from downtown in the 11-point defeat.

Coleman paces the Midshipmen this season in points per game (23.5) and rebounds per game (10.6). She also has team-high marks in assists (4.6) and steals (3.0).

Watts has come on strong as well, averaging 9.0 points per game and 3.8 boards in 16 appearances. She is averaging 11.0 ppg in six league contests, making a start in all of them.

Wednesday will mark the 66th all-time meeting between Lehigh and Navy as the two schools face off for the first time since the 2019-20 season.

The Mids hold a 33-32 all-time advantage over the Mountain Hawks, while Lehigh has the edge in Patriot League contests at 30-28.

Lehigh has won the previous four meetings including five of the last six over Navy. The Midshipmen's last win at Stabler Arena was back on Jan. 18, 2017. Since then, Lehigh has won three straight home games.
