BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Not only a fierce competitor on the track, senior Jeffrey Kirshenbaum of the Lehigh men's track and field team is also a dominant force in the classroom. Kirshenbaum was named an Academic All-Patriot League selection on Monday afternoon, announced by the league office. The senior has also been a three-time academic team member.

"There may not be a more deserving individual in our program. Jeff has been a team leader on the track and in the classroom," said head coach Matt Utesch. "He is always smiling and has a unique story that will inevitably make all who hear it laugh. He has been an outstanding member of our program."

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor. To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The applied economics major earned a 3.92 cumulative GPA to be given the honor. A dual threat in both the classroom and the track, Kirshenbaum is coming off his final events representing the Brown and White at the PLCs, as he used a late surge in the final mile of the 10K to earn a silver medal and a second-place finish with a time of 30:31.33.

In the Lehigh Season Opener, Kirshenbaum won the 5K with a time of 15:07.50, plus a second-place finish at the Lafayette Open in the 5K at 15:06.30. Lehigh's Happy Easter Races saw the senior tally a fourth-place finish in the 5K with a time of 14:58.22.

Kirshenbaum will look to compete at this weekend's IC4A/ECAC Championships for a chance to qualify and earn a spot at the NCAA Championships.
