Lehigh Wraps Up Regular-Season Schedule With Successful Day at Colgate

ROME, N.Y. – The Lehigh women's rowing team had its final regular-season race on Saturday as the Mountain Hawks put forth an impressive effort at Colgate in a regatta that also featured Marist and UConn. Lehigh and Colgate squared off in initial heats, as did Marist and UConn, with the winners meeting in the afternoon (and losers competing in petite finals). The Mountain Hawks' Varsity Eight led the way by winning both its heat and final.

"We had a great day of racing," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "The women raced incredibly well. They've put together some great races leading into Patriots. The Varsity Eight definitely stood out with their performances in both the first race and second race of the day. They're gelling really well together. They're finding their rhythm together and just having fun going fast, which I think is going to create more speed for them."

The Varsity Eight beat Colgate in the morning by 25 seconds (finishing in 6:36.6, compared to the Raiders' 7:01.6). Lehigh went on to post a time of 6:38.2 in the grand final, more than 16 seconds ahead of Marist (6:54.8).

The Second Varsity Eight also beat Colgate in its heat in a close finish (6:57.7 compared to 6:58.0) before finishing third in its grand final.

"The 2V had a great and exciting race in the heat," said Conley. "There was a little bit of trouble getting together in the second race, but definitely stuff we'll be able to work on before we head into Patriots."

The Mountain Hawks' women's squad will return to action on Friday, May 14 for the Patriot League Championships on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
