BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's soccer team looks to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat vs. Boston University when it returns to the field exactly one week later at Navy. Opening kickoff on Friday is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Despite the BU loss, the Mountain Hawks remain in a strong position – tied for third in the Patriot League standings, with more than half of the league contests still remaining.
Lehigh dropped its first league game on Senior Night, as the Terriers scored the game's only goal in the 78th minute. Freshman Abby Trainor made a strong initial save on a penalty kick, but Jenna Oldham put in her own rebound. A very evenly-played first half turned in the Terriers' favor over the final 45 minutes, who held a 7-2 edge in shots. Trainor was strong in goal, making four saves. She now owns a 1.42 goals against average and 73.9 save percentage on the season.
The Mountain Hawks' offense was quiet after scoring seven goals over the first three league games. It was also the first time they had been shut-out at home all season; entering the day, Lehigh had scored 11 goals over its first four home contests.
The defending Patriot League Champion, Navy stands 6-5-2 overall, including 1-2-1 in league play. The Mids have beaten Loyola while tying Colgate and falling to Bucknell and Boston University. Caitlin Doran leads Navy in goals (6) and points (13) while Alexa Riddle is second with nine points via two goals and a team-leading five assists. Four of Doran's six goals have proven to be game-winners. Mattie Gallagher has started 12-of-13 games between the pipes, posting a 1.43 GAA and 75.0 save percentage.
Navy has won 10 straight in the all-time series, with Lehigh's last win coming in 2011 at home. The last two games have been one-goal margins, with both coming in Annapolis. Overall, the Mids hold a 22-4-4 edge, with the first coming in 1993 – a 4-0 Lehigh win.
Following Friday's game, the Mountain Hawks return home on Wednesday, Oct. 13 to host Colgate at 6 p.m.
