Lehigh continues pursuit of PLT spot with Senior Night matchup vs. Boston U.
10/29/2021 2:56:00 PM | Men's Soccer
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Just two games separate the Lehigh men's soccer team from the Patriot League Tournament and Saturday is an important one for the Mountain Hawks (3-10-2, 3-4-0 PL), winners of their last two league contests. Lehigh hosts Boston University on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex for Senior Night.
Lehigh currently sits in seventh place with nine points, one behind sixth-place Lafayette (10), whom the Mountain Hawks have a victory over already this year. Lehigh's next two opponents (Boston U., Colgate) currently occupy the bottom two spots on the Patriot League table.
Led by junior forward Jack Sarkos' first career hat trick on Saturday at Navy, the Mountain Hawks played their most complete game of the season, topping the Midshipmen on the road in double-overtime. Sarkos, who scored in the first, 32nd and 92nd minutes, was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for his performance. He currently leads his Lehigh teammates in goals (5) and points (11).
Four different players recorded an assist on Sarkos' three goals, including Trevor Koski, Yoni Aidlberg, Perry Kingson and two for Josh Luchini. Luchini is second on the team in goals (3) and points (10), while tied for the team-lead in assists (4) with Koski.
Sophomore goalkeeper Blake Koski will likely make his ninth start of the season against the Terriers on Saturday night with his 1.40 goals against average. Koski has one shutout this season, against Lafayette, and while allowing four goals over his last two games, has been solid otherwise.
Boston University has had no doubt a rough go in 2021, but with eight points in a tie with Bucknell, are still in the hunt for a tournament berth. The Terriers are coming off a double-OT scoreless draw at Bucknell last Saturday, after two straight wins over Northeastern (3-1) and Colgate (2-0). The Terriers are 0-5-3 on the road this season, still looking for its first victory away from Nickerson Field.
The Terriers' No. 9, Ronaldo Marshall leads the way with four goals and two assists. He scored a brace against Northeastern on Oct. 19. Brian Hernandez and Eitan Rosen each have a pair of scores so far. Marshall, Hernandez and Colin Innes lead the team with a pair of helpers.
In goal, Francesco Montali has made 11 starts for BU with a goals against average of 1.40. He's made 42 saves, allowed 16 goals and have a .724 save percentage.
Lehigh and BU head into Saturday's matchup with the all-time series tied, 4-4. The Mountain Hawks have claimed the last two fixtures, including a 4-2 win at UIrich Sports Complex on Sept. 29, 2019 where Josh Luchini scored his first career hat trick. Stevo Bednarsky scored the other goal in the contest on the assist from Alex Greene.
Five seniors – Noah Sutherland, Dawson Berger, Michael Tahiru, Nick Jennings, Josh Luchini – and two fifth-years – Trevor Koski and Stevo Bednarsky – will be honored with a special Senior Night ceremony at halftime.
Saturday's contest will not be streamed, but live stats will be provided.
