BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior Junmoke James will have the opportunity to compete internationally next week as she will represent Jamaica at a Billie Jean King Cup event, Oct. 24-31 in La Paz, Bolivia.

The Billie Jean King Cup is the premier international team competition in women's tennis. Launched as the Federation Cup in 1963 and shortened to the Fed Cup in 1995, the competition was renamed last year after former world No. 1 player Billie Jean King.

Team Jamaica is one of seven that will be competing in Bolivia next week, split into two pools as part of the Group II Americas Zone. Participating nations include Barbados, Bolivia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica & Puerto Rico. The winner of the event in Bolivia will advance to Americas Group I in 2022.

James went 4-4 in singles action and 4-3 in doubles last spring, playing primarily at No. 3 singles and on the No. 3 doubles team alongside Anshika Singh. The Marietta, Georgia native played No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles as a freshman, going 5-7 in singles and 6-6 in doubles prior to the spring season being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Lehigh's recently completed fall season, James posted a 3-4 singles mark and a 5-3 doubles record. She competed in Lehigh's first three events: the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational, the Lehigh Invitational and the ITA Regional Championships.
