Men's Swimming and Diving finishes Patriot League Championships in sixth with 312.5 points

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team concluded the four-day Patriot League Championships on Saturday, as we saw more school records broken and top finishes for the men. At the end of the fourth and final day, the Mountain Hawks finished sixth with a total score of 312.5 points.

The Mountain Hawks came into this week as the underdogs, and backed down from no one, putting on top-notch performances. Lehigh just missed fifth-place, as the Mountain Hawks finished just behind the Terriers of Boston University.
 
The highlight of the final day came from a first-year swimmer, as Nick Highman broke a school record in the 200 breast. Highman's record-breaking time of 2:01.58 gave the freshman an seventh-place finish.
 
In the 400 freestyle relay, the group. Of Joey Rogers, Teddy Smith, Greg Giannella and Glenn Lasco finished fourth with a time of 2:59.76. The sophomore Lasco also tallied a fifth-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 44.72.
 
The 200 back event saw two Brown and White swimmers finish inside the top-11, as Owen Thomas finished 10th with a time of 1:48.41, while Matt Feryo finished right behind his teammate at 1:48.64.
 
In the 200 fly, a trio of Mountain Hawks registered noteworthy times in the B Final, as first-year swimmer Janik Wing finished 10th at 1:49.67, while Max Goldenberg finished 12th with a time of 1:50.89. Teddy Smith then finished 13th, coming in with a time of 1:51.30.
 
Competing in the 3-meter dive, Addison Cochran finished 11th with a score of 238.20, a time that was better than his prelim time. A pair of Lehigh swimmers recorded 13th place finishes on Saturday as well. Nico Lastauskas in the 1650 freestyle (16:00.14), while senior Tyler Christ came in at 2:04.37 in the 200 breast.

DAY THREE
The third day of competition at the 2020 Patriot League Championships saw the Lehigh men's swimming and diving team finish fourth in the 200 free relay, it's best finish of the day. Entering the last day of play at the PLC, Lehigh is currently in sixth, but only trails fifth-place Boston University by half a point, and then fourth-place Bucknell by 23 points.
 
In that 200 free relay, Glenn LascoJoey RogersWalker Wilson and Greg Giannella was in a tight race the entire time. In a back-and-forth race with Loyola for the third and fourth spots, the Greyhounds just barely edged the Mountain Hawks. Loyola finished third at 1:20.64, while the Lehigh group finished fourth at 1:20.77.
 
In the morning part of the day, Lehigh broke two school records. In the prelims for the 100 butterfly, Teddy Smith broke Angelo DiGiacinto's 49.02 by posting a 48.72. In the finals, Smith finished sixth at 48.89.
 
Smith wasn't the lone Mountain Hawk to break a school record in the prelims, as Owen Thomas also shattered a record in the 100 backstroke. Thomas' time of 48.95 was good enough to shatter the previous record, a record that was held by Thomas himself. In the finals, Thomas finished with a time of 49.37 for sixth.
 
In the 200 free, the sophomore Lasco had a prelim time of 1:39.00. Finishing first in the B Final, Lasco blew by his prelim time and finished the finals with a time of 1:37.81, a full second better. Lasco ultimately finished ninth. The senior leader Wilson also placed in the B Final, as Wilson finished 14th with a time of 1:39.43.
 
A duo of Brown and White swimmers placed 10th overall in their respective events on Friday. In the 100 butterfly, Max Goldenberg finished 10th with a time of 49.88, while Connor Sept in the 100 breast finished at 56.11.
 
Concluding the scoring on Friday night, senior Tyler Christ placed 12th in the 100 breast with a time of 56.54.
 
Lehigh's not done yet, as they look to move up the leaderboard and finish fifth, possibly even fourth at the 2020 Patriot League Championships.

DAY TWO
After a short first day in which the men only had two events, the Lehigh men's swimming and diving team was much busier on Thursday, as the Mountain Hawks competed in five events. Through 14 events at the PLC, the men's team is currently in fifth with a score of 116. Navy (375.5) and Army (280.5) are have sprung out and battling for the lead.
 
The biggest highlight of the day for Lehigh came in the 400 medley relay. That's a special group for the Mountain Hawks, why? Well, that group broke a school record today. Owen Thomas (48.96), Connor Sept (55.61), Teddy Smith (47.76) and Glenn Lasco (44.16) swam together for a time of 3:16.49. The previous record of 3:19.13 is no more! The Brown and White ended up finishing fourth in the event.
 
The sophomore Lasco wasn't done shining yet. In the 50 free, Lasco impressed the crowd with his 20.39 time. The sophomore finished in fifth.
 
A duo of Brown and White swimmers compiled 12th place finishes on Thursday, as the sophomore Thomas finished 12th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:50.03. Senior leader Walker Wilson also ended up finishing 12 in the 500 free at 4:29.53.
 
In the 1-meter dive, sophomore Addison Cochran finished 13th with a score of 213.90.

DAY ONE
After the first day of competition at the 2020 Patriot League Championships, the Lehigh men's swimming and diving team is currently in fourth with 58 total points. The men might have only had two races; however, the energy was brought by all teams.
 
Starting in the 200 medley relay, Owen ThomasConnor SeptTeddy Smith and Greg Giannella registered a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:29.99. The Naval Academy took first with a time of 1:26.87. The Mountain Hawks just finished ahead of Boston University in fifth. The Terriers came in with a time of 1:30.07.
 
The Brown and White then tallied fifth in the 800 freestyle relay. The group of Smith, Glenn LascoCollin Hanlon and senior leader Walker Wilson finished with a time of 6:38.65. Bucknell finished fourth with a time of 6:36.46. The Mountain Hawks finished ahead of the Terriers of Boston University who came in sixth with a time of 6:39.31.
