Lehigh looks for third straight home win vs. Colgate Wednesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — After a game to be remembered on Saturday afternoon, the Lehigh women's basketball team is back at Stabler Arena for the second consecutive game to take on Colgate for the first time this season Wednesday evening with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
There are many highlights that can be taken from Lehigh's 89-72 victory over Army West Point last Saturday afternoon, but the one that stands out is one number: 36.
Senior Camryn Buhr had a performance for the ages against the Black Knights, finishing with a career-high mark of 36 points on 13-for-21 shooting with 13 rebounds. The 36 points is the most by a Lehigh women's player in Stabler Arena history and the most by a Lehigh women's player in the Patriot League era. She finished just a point shy of tying Liz Feeley's single-game program record for points with 37, set back on Mar. 5, 1986.
Slightly overshadowed by Buhr's near record-breaking game, sophomore Emma Grothaus had the game of her life as well, registering a career-high 25 points while going 10-for-17 from the field.
In addition to Buhr's 36 and Grothaus' 25, sophomore Clair Steele was third on the team with a season-high 11 points.
The Mountain Hawks shot particularly well from the field at 44.8 percent (30-for-67), but the real story was their success from the free throw line at 75.9 percent (22-for-29), able to get to the line more off of Army West Point's 20 personal fouls.
With her performance, Buhr upped her season average of points per game by a whole point, up to 13.1 points per game on the season.
Colgate is off to one of, if not the best season in program history with a 17-7 overall record heading into a stretch of the final five games of the 2019-20 regular season.
The Raiders are currently tied for second place in the league with Boston U. after being voted sixth in the Patriot League preseason poll.
Colgate is coming off a 79-70 Senior Day victory over Loyola Saturday afternoon at Cotterell Court. The Raiders got started early with a 14-0 run in the first quarter resulting in a 19-8 lead at the end of the frame.
Colgate led 64-46 at the start of the fourth quarter and that's all they needed to come away with the win.
Tegan Graham scored a season-high 22 points to go along with six assists, three rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Abby Schubiger finished with 12 points and six boards, while Haley Greer had 11 points, Ava Williams had 10. Senior Rachel Thompson filled the stat-sheet with her eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists, tacking on three steals.
The Raiders shot the lights out from the field at 50.8 percent (33-for-65), including 41.2 percent (7-for-17) from beyond-the-arc. However, Colgate struggled shooting its free throws, converting on only 40 percent (6-for-15) of its shots from the charity stripe.
Thompson is having a very successful season for the Raiders this year, leading her teammates in most prominent categories including points (16.3), rebounds (8.0) and assists (5.0). She has 15 double-doubles and one triple-double this season.
The Lehigh-Colgate matchup dates back to the 1986-87 season with the first matchup resulting in an 82-65 victory for Lehigh on Jan. 3, 1987 in Hamilton.
Lehigh is 42-27 all-time against the Raiders, including 32-24 in Patriot League play.
The Mountain Hawks have taken the last three games over Colgate including five of the last six games.
The game will air live on Service Electric 2 Sports and stream live through the Patriot League Network. Like with all games this season, Matt Markus will bring the audio call of the game on Lehighsports.com with his pre-game show set for 5:50 p.m.
