BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After an intensive back-and-forth showdown with Bucknell last weekend in the Angry Birds Challenge, the Lehigh men's track and field team competed in two highly competitive events on the day. A total of 14 personal PRs were broken between the Moravian Indoor Challenge and the UPenn Select.
First off, inside Rauch Fieldhouse with a total of 15 teams competing, two of the top bright spots were Vincent Polignano and Bartlomiej Bancewicz. Polignano finished fourth in the high jump at 1.83m (6'0"), while Bancewicz used a late surge to finish fifth in the 800m. In the weight throw, Quinn Conlan placed 16th in the weight throw at 11.19m (36'8.50").
In Staten Island at the UPenn Select, the men went up against eight competitive teams, easily the hardest competition they've seen in the early of their season. Two of the high notes in the evening came from Zach DeLone and Anastasios Mouzakis. DeLone finished third in the 200m at 21.99, while then capturing another third in the 60m at 6.96, only four tenths of a second behind the winner. Mouzakis, the might junior threw a powerful 16.63m in the weight throw.
Sean Brown, one of the best in the Patriot League, captured an eighth-place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:54.23. In the high jump, Christian O'Neal finished ninth, jumping at 1.85m, and then the 4x400m relay team of Kerem Ayhan, Evan El-Halawani, Harrison Ernst and Amondo Lemmon tallied a ninth-place finish at 3:25.70.
The freshman Lemmon finished 22nd in the 400m earlier in the night at 51.71. In the shot put, senior Adam Freesman put forth a good showing, ending the night with a 12th place finish at 13.16m.
In the 200m, Samuel Tapera finished 15th with a time of 22.83, following that, David Flecther finished 13th in the 800m at 1:56.68.
