BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off a successful trip to central New York, No. 12 Lehigh returns to Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall for a pair of EIWA duals. The Mountain Hawks, winners of five straight duals overall, will host American on Friday night before welcoming Navy on Saturday in the 100th meeting of Lehigh's second most-contested series. Saturday is also Salute to Service Day at Grace Hall and the annual Billy Sheridan Memorial Dual. Last weekend, Lehigh rolled to a 36-3 win at Binghamton, winning the final nine bouts along the way; and then knocked off Cornell 19-14 in a dual that went down to the final bout. The Mountain Hawks won five of the first seven bouts against the Big Red and clinched their second straight win over Cornell when junior Jordan Wood defeated Brendan Furman 5-0 at 285.
Friday night's dual with American features a foam finger giveaway for the first 500 fans in attendance. In addition to the 100th meeting of Lehigh and Navy and the Sheridan Dual, Saturday's match with Navy is Salute to Service Day, with free admission available for military members and first responders.

In its first dual action of 2020, the Mountain Hawks won a pair of EIWA duals in New York State. First, Lehigh won the final nine bouts in a 36-3 triumph at Binghamton, then the Mountain Hawks traveled to Ithaca and held off upset-minded Cornell 19-14 in a dual that came down to the final bout. Against Binghamton, Lehigh capitalized on junior Brandon Paetzell's second fall of the season, while the Mountain Hawks also recorded three major decisions. Another highlight of the Binghamton dual was an impressive 6-2 win by junior Chris Weiler over sixth-ranked Lou Deprez at 184. The Lehigh-Cornell dual came down to the final bout for the second straight year. This time it was junior heavyweight Jordan Wood clinching the Mountain Hawks' second straight victory against the Big Red with a 5-0 decision over Brendan Furman. Senior Jordan Kutler won by major decision at 174, while freshman Brian Meyer recorded a key sudden victory decision at 165 to spur the Mountain Hawks.
Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro reached one milestone with last week's win at Cornell and has another milestone within reach. The win over the Big Red was No. 150 for Santoro as head coach of the Brown and White. Add in 48 victories in five seasons as head coach at Maryland and Santoro needs two more victories to reach 200 wins for his head coaching career.
Five Mountain Hawks appear in the latest InterMat rankings, led by senior Jordan Kutler, who is ranked third at 174. Lehigh also has seven wrestlers ranked by both FloWrestling and Amateur Wrestling News and has nine ranked by The Open Mat. In addition to Kutler, Brandon Paetzell (125), Josh Humphreys (157), Chris Weiler (184) and Jordan Wood (285) are ranked across the board by all four outlets. Juniors Nick Farro (133) and Jake Jakobsen (197) are ranked by three of the four, while sophomores Jimmy Hoffman (149) and Dan Moran (141) are ranked solely by The Open Mat.
Lehigh wrestlers enjoyed another strong fall semester in the classroom, with 15 Mountain Hawks posting a grade point average of 3.0 or better last semester. Senior Chase Gallik led the way for the Mountain Hawks with a 4.0 GPA in structural engineering. Sophomore Luke Resnick was also over 3.9 in the fall, posting a 3.94 in finance. Gallik is enrolled in a graduate program. Resnick leads Lehigh undergraduates with a 3.76 cumulative GPA, followed by sophomore Andrew Shedleski (astrophysics) and freshman Jake Logan (business), who hold 3.75s. Eight of the 15 Mountain Hawks to post a 3.0 or better in the fall have competed in a dual meet this season, a list that includes Jimmy Hoffman, Jake Jakobsen, Jordan Kutler, Kent Lane, Brian Meyer, Dan Moran, Ryan Pomrinca and Jordan Wood.
After spending the first semester on the tournament circuit, American has wrestled five duals over the first two weekends of 2020. The Eagles went 0-3 at the Jan. 4 West Point Duals, losing to Wyoming, Army and North Carolina; but bounced back last weekend with home EIWA wins over Brown and Drexel. Among first semester action, American took ninth place at the Navy Classic and finished 15th at the Midlands Championships. Two Eagles appear in the latest InterMat rankings. Kizhan Clarke is ranked eighth at 149 and Tanner Harvey comes in at No. 18 at 184. Projected 141-pound starter Sal Profaci is a Michigan transfer. Teague Moore is in his ninth season as American's head coach.
Navy visits on Saturday with a 4-3 dual record. Last Saturday the Midshipmen won three of the final four bouts to rally for a 19-18 home win over Bucknell. The Mids also own dual wins over Fresno State, California Baptist and Maryland while losses have come against Wisconsin, Penn State and Lock Haven. Navy also competed at the Southern Scuffle earlier this month. The Midshipmen have also been busy on the tournament circuit and hosted the Navy Classic, finishing seventh in November. Three Mids appear in the latest InterMat rankings, led by Tanner Skidgel who is ranked eighth at 165. Logan Treaster (125) and Spencer Carey (174) are also ranked in the top 20. Joel Sharratt is in his sixth season as Navy's head coach.
Saturday's match with Navy marks the 16th consecutive season that Lehigh's legendary former coach, Billy Sheridan, is honored with a single dual meet against a high profile opponent. This year marks the 10th year in a row that the single Sheridan Dual pits Lehigh against an EIWA rival and the fourth time that rival is Navy. Five of the first eight Sheridan Duals under the current format were hosted at Stabler Arena. From 2000-2003 Lehigh hosted the Sheridan Duals, a series of duals in which the Mountain Hawks faced three opponents on the first or second Saturday in December at Stabler Arena. Before that, Lehigh hosted the Sheridan Tournament, which began in 1979.
The Mountain Hawks have won all nine previous duals with American by an average score of 29.7-10.8. American visits Bethlehem for the fifth time (Dec. '03, Feb. '11, Feb. '16, Jan. '18). Navy is Lehigh's second most-often wrestled opponent behind Penn State. Saturday's dual marks the 100th meeting between Lehigh and Navy. The Mountain Hawks have won the last eight duals to take the lead in the all-time series for the first time.
Friday's dual versus American begins at 7 p.m. from Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall, while Saturday's Lehigh-Navy match is set for a 2 p.m. start. Tickets for both duals are still available and can be purchased at LehighTickets.com or by calling 610-7LU-GAME during business hours.
The Mountain Hawks will be off from competition next weekend and will return to action on Friday, January 31 when they battle EIWA rival Army West Point in a dual that has been moved to West Orange High School in New Jersey. The 20th-ranked Black Knights moved their Senior Night dual to West Orange to honor late wrestler C.J. Morgan, an alumnus of West Orange High School, who passed away last summer due to injuries sustained from a military vehicle accident in the U.S. Military Academy's training area. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
The 2019-20 Lehigh wrestling season is presented by the Historic Hotel Bethlehem.
