Mountain Hawks improve to 3-1 for first time since 2000 following 3-0 win vs. Hoyas

"This team is learning and adjusting quickly, which is something we struggled to do in the past, "said Lehigh head coach Caitlin Dallmeyer. "We knew we had to make some big adjustments after Richmond. We only had one practice to do that, and we had to be really careful about not overworking them so they could still be prepared for this game. They were really thoughtful and focused going into practice so they could make those adjustments and be prepared today."
A fairly uneventful first quarter saw each team fire just two shots, but freshman Maddie Kahn made two saves. Lehigh changed that in the second, outshooting the Hoyas 6-0 and outscoring them 2-0. It began at the 20:06 mark when junior Lenke Havas carried all the way from the defensive to attacking zone and found Pecora ahead. Pecora went on to slip the ball past oncoming Georgetown goalkeeper Ciara Weets, giving the Mountain Hawks a 1-0 advantage.

Just over five minutes later, Lehigh doubled its lead. Near the end line, freshman Sarah Bonthuis made a nifty spin move to free herself, firing a shot which was saved, but Monahan buried the rebound for her first-career goal at 25:08.

The third quarter saw Lehigh with a 5-4 shots edge. Pecora added an insurance tally at the 33:52 mark, taking advantage of a turnover in front of the cage. Her first shot was saved, but she wouldn't be denied on the rebound.

"I'm glad that we're scoring in open-field play and not corners because although scoring off corners is a strength, we can't rely on that," said Dallmeyer. "We need to be able to create things for ourselves on the forward line and we've been doing that. Our forwards have been great so far this year; we haven't been shut out yet, which is fantastic. Today, our defensive line really stepped up big-time, made a lot of adjustments so everything was coming together which allowed us to have momentum the entire game."
The Hoyas did outshoot Lehigh 6-1 in the fourth quarter, but shots on goal were 1-1. Kahn made a save in the final minute, her sixth of the game, to preserve the second shutout in her first four career games. Lehigh's two shutouts this season after none all of last year.
Final shots were 14-12 in favor of Lehigh while the Mountain Hawks held a 5-4 edge in penalty corners. Kahn's six saves came across Weets, who made seven.
The Mountain Hawks now hit the road for four straight games, beginning Saturday morning at Colgate (11 a.m.). Lehigh then heads to Wagner for a nonleague contest on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
