BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Standing 2-0 for the first time since 2002, the Lehigh field hockey team returns to action this weekend when it hosts Richmond on Friday (4 p.m.) and Georgetown on Sunday (12 p.m.). The Mountain Hawks began their season with a 1-0 win at Rider followed by a 4-1 victory over Towson, allowing their fewest goals through two games (1) since the 2000 season.

Both of this weekend's games are set to be streamed live, for free, through the Patriot League Network.

Most recently, Lehigh used a dominant third quarter against Towson, outshooting the Tigers 10-1 and outscoring them 3-0 to turn a 1-0 lead into a 4-0 advantage. Towson added a fourth-quarter goal, but it wasn't nearly enough to stop Lehigh from winning both its home opener. For the second straight week, the Mountain Hawks picked up two Patriot League weekly awards. This time, a pair of first-years were honored; Sarah Bonthuis garnered Rookie of the Week after two third-quarter goals in the span of 3:19, and Sydney White received Defensive Player of the Week.

Through two weeks, three Mountain Hawk first-years have won awards, with Maddie Kahn also winning Goalkeeper of the Week following a nine-save effort vs. the Broncs. After stopping two-of-three shots sent her way vs. Towson, Kahn now owns a 91.7 save percentage to lead the nation, and 0.50 goals against average. She wasn't tested much last Friday, with the Lehigh defense allowing just six shots and only three on goal.

Along with Bonthuis' two goals, junior Drew Pecora tallied her first-career multi-goal game last time out. In the first quarter, she made a redirection to open the scoring while late in the third, blasted a shot past the Towson goalkeeper. It marked Pecora's first goals since 2017 after missing all of last season due to injury.

A perennial contender in the Atlantic 10, Richmond is 2-2 on the young season, only falling to nationally-ranked teams – No. 2 Maryland (5-1) and No. 20 Liberty (3-0). The Spiders' wins are vs. Patriot League opponents American (3-2) and Bucknell (3-2 in overtime). Elise Zwicklbauer leads the offense with five points via two goals and an assist, while Abra Granger and Addie Nash have scored two goals apiece. Collectively, those three have scored six of Richmond's seven goals thus far. Frankie Conklin has started all four games in the cage, tallying a 3.06 GAA and 65.7 save percentage.

Friday will mark the third-ever meeting between Lehigh and Richmond, and first since 1990. The Spiders won that contest, 3-1 at Richmond while Lehigh won the first-ever matchup, 1-0 in 1983.

Georgetown also enters the weekend 2-2, heading into a Friday game at Rider. The Hoyas have beaten Davidson (5-2) and Longwood (2-1) while falling to Appalachian State (1-0) and James Madison (3-2). Lindsay Getz leads the offense with three of the Hoyas' nine goals so far, while Ellie Maransky has recorded five points (two goals, one assist). Ciara Weets has played every minute in goal, owning a 1.75 GAA and 78.8 save percentage.

The Mountain Hawks are 10-6 all-time against Georgetown. Lehigh won three straight from 2012-14, but has dropped three of the last four since. The win did come the last time the teams played at Lehigh, with the Mountain Hawks victorious 3-2 on Senior Day 2017.

Following this weekend, Lehigh hits the road for four straight, beginning with the Patriot League opener next Saturday, Sept. 21 at Colgate.
