Wilson's school record paces Lehigh in second day of PL Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Junior Walker Wilson has been a fantastic member of the Lehigh men's swimming and diving squad this season and on Thursday night, he showed his heroics once again during the second day of the Patriot League Championships at Kinney Natatorium on the campus of Bucknell University.
Wilson had some intense competition in the men's 500-yard freestyle final, but he outlasted most of his competitors and came away with a third place, bronze medal finish in the event. Perhaps even more impressive than that was the school record he shattered in the process. The previous school record, held by Wilson himself, was a time of 4:26.72 set in 2018. On Thursday, Wilson swam to a time of 4:23.84, much faster than his previous best. The swim gave the Mountain Hawks valuable points to maintain a fourth position in the Patriot League standings after two days.
In addition to Wilson's big night, Lehigh's Connor Sept finished 14th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.06 while Kevin Fleck finished in 12th in the 500 free with a time of 4:30.84. In the 50 freestyle, Greg Giannella finished 14th with a time of 20.69.
The final men's event of the night saw the 400-yard medley relay team of Owen Thomas, Sept, Teddy Smith and Wilson finish in sixth place with a time of 3:20.38.
After the second day of competition, the Lehigh men are currently in fourth place with 138 total points. They currently trail Bucknell (159), Army West Point (272) and Navy (365).
On Friday, the third day of competition heats up with the men's and women's 100 fly, men's and women's 400 IM, men's and women's 200 free, men's and women's 100 breast, men's and women's 100 back, men's one-meter dive and men's and women's 200 free relay finals. Day 3 will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network, with coverage of the preliminary rounds beginning at 10 a.m.
