Mountain Hawks win six-of-eight races in successful day at Frostbite Regatta
11/9/2019 11:53:00 PM | Men's Rowing, Women's Rowing
CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The Lehigh rowing team wrapped up its fall schedule in a big way on Saturday, as six of the Mountain Hawks' eight crews won their races at the Frostbite Regatta on the Cooper River. The regatta was Lehigh's third and final event of the fall, as it looks to carry the momentum from Saturday into winter training and the upcoming spring campaign.
Â
"We executed our race plan which is what we've been working on all fall," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "To be able to work through the process of trying to make the boat go faster has made us learn how to do just that."
Â
Lehigh's Women's Freshmen Four was victorious to begin the day (7:19.600), beating second-place Manhattan by more than 36 seconds. The Women's Varsity Four followed less than a half hour later with another victory, finishing in 8:32.200. The Men's Varsity Four finished in first as well, posting a time of 7:04.350.
Â
Other first-place finishes included the Women's Freshmen Eight (7:39.91) and two in the Women's Varsity Eight – in both the A (7:13.26) and B (7:35.550) entries.
Â
"The Women's Varsity Eight A really did well in terms of putting everything together we've worked on and being able to under stroke the competition and still come out with the win," said Conley. "That is really critical for us as we move into the winter."
Â
The fall set a strong foundation for the Mountain Hawks moving forward.
Â
"Overall in the fall, we've learned a lot – not being focused on the result, but being focused on the things that will make us successful in the spring. That is the process."
