BETHLEHEM, Pa. – First place in the Patriot League standings is at stake as Lehigh hosts Holy Cross on Salute to Service Day at Goodman Stadium. The Mountain Hawks bring a four-game winning streak into the contest, including three straight league wins that were sealed on the game's final play. Last week, senior Austin Henning kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired to beat Georgetown 27-24. The Mountain Hawks led by eight late in the game before a 72-yard touchdown pass and two-point conversion pulled the Hoyas even. The freshman duo of Zaythan Hill and Nate Hope combined for 148 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns against the Hoyas. Holy Cross is 2-0 in Patriot League play with wins over Bucknell and Colgate.

For the third consecutive league game, Lehigh emerged victorious on the game's final play. At Colgate, it was Divine Buckrham's game-saving tackle at the one yard line. Against Fordham, it was a four-yard touchdown pass from Addison Shoup to Devon Bibbens in overtime. Last week against Georgetown, Austin Henning kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired to win it for the Mountain Hawks. It was Lehigh's first game-winning field goal as time expired since Jake Peery booted a 22-yarder to edge Fordham 34-31 on Sept. 29, 2012.

Since the start of Patriot League play, Lehigh's offense has received a boost from freshman running backs Zaythan Hill and Nate Hope. Hope had 112 yards from scrimmage at Colgate, including a touchdown catch, and scored his first two career rushing touchdowns against Georgetown. Hill has scored a touchdown in three consecutive games, scoring the go-ahead touchdown from nine-yards out at Colgate and setting a Patriot League record with a 94-yard touchdown run at Fordham. His run was the second-longest from scrimmage in school history and the first 90-plus yard run for Lehigh in 21 years. Both players have won Patriot League Rookie of the Week awards, Hope following the Colgate game and Hill following Fordham. They combined for 148 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns against Georgetown.

Senior quarterback Tyler Monaco has rebounded from a rough outing against Merrimack with three consecutive strong performances in Lehigh's three league wins. Monaco had completed just 45.1 percent of his passes in non-league action with two touchdowns and four interceptions, but in three league games has completed 60.2 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and one interception. The Davie, Fla., native has thrown for 200 or more yards in five of his seven starts this season. Monaco had his first career two touchdown pass game at Fordham and threw for a career-high 271 yards in the win over Georgetown.

The only other unbeaten team in Patriot League football, Holy Cross carries a 2-0 league mark and 4-4 overall record into Saturday's game. The Crusaders hammered Colgate 31-10 last Saturday and also own a league road victory at Bucknell. Leading rusher Domenic Cozier ran for 153 yards against the Raiders, while freshman receiver Ayir Asante had four catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns and was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week. Quarterback Connor Degenhardt has thrown 10 touchdown passes and three interceptions this season. Chris Riley is the top tackler with 54 stops, while Corey Stefanik has a team-best five sacks to go along with 48 tackles. Holy Cross also owns wins over New Hampshire and Brown, while its losses have come against FBS members Navy and Syracuse and Ivy League members Yale and Harvard.

Several members of the Lehigh coaching staff have connections to Holy Cross, most notably head coach Tom Gilmore, who spent 14 seasons as the Crusaders' head coach. Gilmore went 72-81 in Worcester and was 5-8 against Lehigh. Three Lehigh assistants also have ties to Holy Cross. Defensive coordinator Mike Kashurba spent four seasons in the same role for the Crusaders. Linebackers coach Charlie Noonan came to Lehigh after four seasons in Worcester, while running backs coach and special teams coordinator Anthony DiMichele coached two years at Holy Cross and was an all-league performer as a defensive back for the Crusaders.

Lehigh and Holy Cross get together for the 35th time with Lehigh holding a 19-14-1 lead in the series. Lehigh has won seven of the last nine games against Holy Cross, including four straight at Goodman Stadium. These teams first met in 1924 and did not meet again until 1986.

Lehigh will welcome back its 1979 team Saturday to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its national runner-up finish. In its second year in the newly-formed Division I-AA (now FCS), Lehigh posted a 10-3 overall record, including a 9-2 regular season, capped with a 24-3 victory over Lafayette. The Engineers won at Murray State in the national semifinals before falling 30-7 to Eastern Kentucky in the title game in Orlando, Fla. Lehigh was captained by Eric Yaszemski, Rich Andres and Jim McCormick. McCormick, a linebacker, and offensive lineman Dave Melone were recognized as All-Americans.

Saturday's game kicks off just after 12:30 from Goodman Stadium. Tickets are still available, and may be purchased by visiting LehighTickets.com or by calling (610) 7LU-GAME during business hours.
