Mountain Hawks seventh after opening day of Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Behind a balanced performance where all six participants shot between 77 and 80, the Lehigh men's golf team opened its home Lehigh Invitational with a round of 312 Friday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. With senior Ryan Kelly leading the way, the Mountain Hawks sit in seventh place in a 14-team field entering Saturday's final round.
 
Kelly led the brown and white with a five over par 77, overcoming an opening 41 to shoot even par 36 on the back nine. He is tied for 16th place after one round.
 
Senior Owen Quinn and freshman Sam Barton both shot 78 and are tied for 28th place. Quinn carded a team-high three birdies and was one over on his last nine holes. Barton's opening round featured 12 pars and six bogeys.
 
Freshman David Hurly also was even on his second nine holes and sits in a tie for 37th place after an opening round 79. Classmate Alex Aurora carded an 80 and is tied for 46th place.
 
Also tied for 46th place is freshman Joey Dotta, who is competing as an individual.
 
Rider leads the team standings after an opening round 298, three strokes better than Holy Cross, while Lafayette sits in third, four strokes behind the Broncs.
 
Just two players broke par on Friday. Harrison Thayer of Holy Cross holds the individual lead after a three under par 69. Austin Devereaux from Rider shot 71 and is in second place.
 
With frost anticipated as part of Saturday's morning forecast, tee times have been pushed back for the final round. The first groups will now go off the first tee at 10 a.m. and the 10th tee at 10:20 a.m. Lehigh will play with Bucknell and St. John's as part of the first five groups going off the first hole at 10 a.m.
