Pascoe Leads Mountain Hawks Over Loyola With Career High 26 Points

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's basketball team won its third game in a row as it defeated Loyola (Md.) 51-42 in a tough and gritty game at Stabler Arena.
Lehigh moves to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in the Patriot League while the Greyhounds drop to 2-18 overall and 1-8 in league play.
Senior Hailey Pascoe carried the team for chunks of the game, setting a new career high in scoring with 26 points on the night. Joining Pascoe in double figures in scoring was junior Cameryn Benz, who recorded 10 points, five rebounds, three steals and one block,
"It was a big game for Hailey, and thank goodness she was hitting her shots, because we as a team weren't getting much," said head coach Sue Troyan after the win. "Hailey gave us a steady game and was everything you'd expect from a senior from how she leads on the floor and the sense of urgency she has."
Pascoe's 26 points is also a new team single-game high, eclipsing the 23 points Benz scored against Cornell back on November 29. Pascoe also made six 3-pointers on the night, a new career high in that category.
A tough first quarter of play for both squads, the Mountain Hawks took a three-point advantage out of the first frame. Scoring first was the Greyhounds, as Isabella Therien dropped the first two of 21 points she would score on the night. After the initial score, Pascoe would score the next five points of the quarter for either team to give the Mountain Hawks a 5-2 advantage after one. Therien would be the only Greyhound to enter double figures in scoring on the night.
"We've been consistent on defense this season, and in a game where neither team was that great offensively in the first quarter, I think our defensive pressure kept Loyola from making a lot of shot considering how slow we started," said Troyan.
Getting the slow and sluggish first quarter out of their system, the Mountain Hawks started the second stanza with a 9-2 run, seeing points from junior Camryn Buhr, Benz, junior Gena Grundhoffer and Pascoe. Of the 16 points scored, Pascoe was responsible for eight of them, dropping two 3-pointers and layup to help give Lehigh a 38-34 advantage going into the half.
The third quarter would see another hot start for the Brown and White, with another 9-2 run to start the quarter. Pascoe would once again be one of the primary sources of scoring, scoring another eight points on a pair of 3-pointers and a step back jumper to help keep the pesky Greyhounds at bay with an 18-point quarter.
Next up for the Mountain Hawks will be the Midshipmen of Navy on February 2 at 2 p.m. Lehigh defeated Navy in the first meeting this season at Alumni Hall, coming away victorious 56-38 back on January 6.
