Mountain Hawks fall at LIU Brooklyn despite two-goal effort from Nason

"I was extremely disappointed in the way we played today," said Lehigh head coach Caitlin Dallmeyer. "We really struggled to execute simple skills and we were not able to score in the ways we needed to in order to come up with a win. We continue to be happy with our corner execution. Sam Nason came up big as a defender, and in getting the final touch off two corners."
LIU Brooklyn scored its first two goals in the 10th and 19th minutes, also off corners, to give the Blackbirds a 2-0 halftime advantage. They doubled their lead early in the second, with goals at the 35:12 and 40:26 marks.
From there, the Mountain Hawks responded with the next seven shots, which included Nason's first-career goal, as Nason redirected a Lenke Havas shot in front of the cage.
Just 8:01 later, Nason added another from right in front of the goal, pulling Lehigh within 4-2 at 55:06.Check out Sam Nason's first-career goal at LIU Brooklyn today. pic.twitter.com/jI1bzYzkVX

Any hopes of a comeback were dashed, however, as the Blackbirds added goals in the 57th and 60th minutes to account for the 6-2 final.Sam Nason followed just 8:01 later with her second-career goal, also off a corner! pic.twitter.com/CwGsDvRUtd

"LIU put us back on our heels and we really struggled to dig ourselves out," said Dallmeyer. "We had a great 20-minute surge when we had a lot of attacking momentum, but we weren't doing our jobs in front of the net. We sent a lot of balls at the keeper or missed a lot of opportunities that didn't result in shots."
Final shots were 22-13 in favor of Lehigh while the Mountain Hawks held a 9-5 edge in penalty corners. Sophomores Stephanie Brabender and Madeline Major each made one save while LIU Brooklyn's Molly Jannell recorded 10.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action next weekend when they travel to American on Saturday (11 a.m.) and Georgetown on Sunday (2 p.m.).
"It was really nice to see Olivia Perrone and Lenke Havas working together in the midfield," said Dallmeyer. "They both brought a lot of vocal leadership that this team has been lacking in the past when we've gone down in games. Without that, I'm not sure we would've been able to begin attempting to work ourselves out of the deficit. Our underclassmen are getting comfortable leading and holding others accountable, and we saw that a lot today from Lenke and Olivia. That shows a lot of promise in the leadership that we're looking to have on the field in the future. We're happy to see it starting to develop, but we need it to catch fire with the rest of the team in order to move us quickly."
