PATRIOT LEAGUE RELEASE

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh baseball junior Jeff Shanfeldt and sophomore Tony Gallo earned their first-career All-Patriot League selections as the Patriot League announced its major award winners and All-League teams on Wednesday afternoon. Shanfeldt earned a spot on the Second Team as a catcher, while Gallo landed on the Second Team as a first baseman.

Shanfeldt capped off his third season with the Brown and White with his best year yet, setting career-highs in nearly every offensive and defensive category. The Second Team All-Patriot League catcher posted the fifth-highest fielding percentage (.994) overall in the league this season, including a 1.000 fielding percentage in league play. He threw out 15 runners attempting to steal, which ranked second in the league, and contributed to a pair of pick-offs.

The Garnet Valley, Pa. native ranked second among catchers in the Patriot League this season with a career-high .280 batting average, while he slugged a career-best .367 and posted a career-high .376 on-base percentage. Shanfeldt finished second among his Lehigh teammates with 12 multi-hit games and ended the season on an eight-game reached base streak.

Shanfeldt has played in 114 games throughout his career, including 98 of those games behind the plate. He has thrown out 35 runners attempting to steal in his career as he has led Lehigh in that category each season with the team.

Gallo enjoyed a breakout year during his sophomore season as he worked his way into the everyday lineup. He led all Patriot League first basemen in batting average (.314), slugging percentage (.373) and on-base percentage (.405), while ranking second in hits (32), runs (14) and RBIs (19).

The Newtown Square, Pa. native ranked third among his Lehigh teammates with 10 multi-hit games this season. He ended the season on an 11-game reached base streak, which tied for the longest streak on the team this year as he hit .344 (11-for-32) with nine walks during that span.

Gallo compiled 175 putouts in 20 starts at first base. He ranked first among Patriot League first basemen in assists (36) and ranked second in double plays (13).

Shanfeldt and Gallo become the 89th and 90th All-Patriot League selections in program history as Lehigh has received 21 All-League selections in the last five seasons. Shanfeldt is Lehigh's first All-Patriot League catcher since 2014, while Gallo continues the tradition of success at first base for Lehigh as he becomes the eighth All-League selection at that position since the turn of the century.
