Five Mountain Hawks Hit IC4A Qualifying Times at Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team capped its third meet of the weekend on Sunday with the second and final day of the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell. Five Mountain Hawks hit IC4A qualifying times during Friday's opening night of action.
Three Mountain Hawks all hit IC4A qualifying times in the 1500m invitational, with freshman Sean Brown taking 30th overall after winning his heat in personal record time of 3:52.91, followed by Matt Kravitz (41st/3:54.79) and Kyle Berman (44th/3:55.03). In the unseeded 1500m run, Patrick Reilly finished 31st overall out of 112 in 4:01.96.
Sophomore Jeffrey Kirshenbaum led Lehigh in the 5K invitational in 13th place in 14:33.73, which sits as the seventh-ranked time in the Patriot League this season. Henry Paul also competed and placed 26th (14:44.29). Both runners set new personal records and hit IC4A times. Freshman Brad DeMassa placed 50th overall while setting a new PR in the process at 15:04.52.
Victor Yegon PR-ed with his 14th out of 64 place finish in the 3K steeplechase (9:24.21) and Michael Gooding highlighted Lehigh's field events by finishing in the top half of the triple jump after leaping 13.55m.
On Sunday, a pair of LU runners finished in the top 20 of the 100m dash, which featured 63 placers. Freshman Matt Solomon PR-ed in 11.15 seconds to take 16th place and classmate Samuel Tapera finished 20th overall in 11.21. In the 400m, junior Emre Soybas ran 49.79 to take home seventh place out of 63 after finishing first out of eight in his heat.
Nine Mountain Hawks joined the large field of 143 racers to take part in the 800m run. Senior Kyle Kirk finished in 1:55.21 to pace Lehigh in 24th place. Junior Clay Stabolepszy followed in 49th place in 1:57.11, Sean Brown (58th/1:57.64) and James Chappell (59th/1:57.66) finished back-to-back, and Kyle Berman competed for the second consecutive day and came in 77th (1:58.39).
In the relays, the 4x400 team of Brown, Emre Soybas, Kyle Kirk and Evan El-Halawani combined to finish sixth out of 18 in 3:26.25. The 4x100 team of Jake Sabatini, Tapera, Solomon and Michael Camera combined for a time of 43.93.
Evan El-Halawani was the lone Mountain Hawk to run in both the hurdles, finishing 24th in the 110H in 16.62, and winning his heat in the 400H by setting a new PR of 56.25 seconds to finish 13th overall out of 38.
Next weekend, Lehigh will once again be represented at three different meets, which includes the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton, the Virginia Challenge at UVA and the Greyhound Invitational at Moravian.
