Seven Mountain Hawks will head to the Virginia Challenge, with the remaining members splitting between the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton and Moravian's Greyhound Invitational.
The Virginia Challenge will once again feature some of the top teams and athletes from across the nation. On Friday's first day of action, Kaitlyn Toman and Madisyn Hawkins will compete in the pole vault at 2 p.m., and Hannah Patrick will throw in the javelin at 8:30 p.m. Ryan Givens will get Saturday's action underway for Lehigh at 11 a.m. in the men's high jump, Jordan Otto will compete in the women's high jump at 12:45 p.m., and Patrick Reilly will compete in the 10K at shortly before 9:30 p.m. Senior multi and three-time Patriot League champion Trevor Knowles will be one of 17 competitors in the decathlon.
At the Larry Ellis Invitational, over 100 college programs will be represented including nearly 40 Division I schools and six Patriot League teams – Army West Point, Boston U., Colgate, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. LU has over 70 athletes between the men's and women' teams as accepted entries. The meet will begin with several field events at 2 p.m. and track events will follow at 4:15 p.m. and run throughout the evening. Action will resume at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Across town at Moravian, the men's and women's shot puts and hammer throws will take place on Friday at 4 p.m. with all other events starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field.
Last weekend, Lehigh had several multis compete at the Mondschein Multi, where Tyler Bannister turned in the second highest heptathlon score this season in the Patriot League and broke her own meet record in the high jump (1.67m) which earned her the PL Field Athlete of the Week honor. Sophomore Brooke Schaeffer finished runner-up in the 800m run at the Bison Outdoor Classic with the third ranked PL time this year at 2:11.98. Maura Henderson (5K/16:54.57) and Otto (High Jump/1.62m) also registered No. 3 scores in the Patriot League. Hannah Patrick's javelin throw of 45.39m from the same meet ranks second in the league and Miranda Royds' steeplechase PR of 11:09.44 sits fifth in the PL, giving Lehigh three steeplechasers in the league's top five on the year.
Last weekend for the men, Lehigh had several athletes enter into the top 10 in the Patriot League including Emre Soyabs in the 400m (49.79), Sean Brown in the 1500m (3:52.91), Jeffrey Kirshenbaum and Henry Paul in the 5K, and Taj Blount-Oden in the triple jump (13.60m).
