Lehigh Women Victorious in League Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks returned home from their spring break trip and opened up Patriot League play with a win as they defeated Loyola, 6-1, on Sunday outside at Ulrich Courts. Lehigh improves to 6-5 overall, 1-0 in league play while Loyola falls to 6-1 overall and 0-1 in the league.
Lehigh began the match by taking two out of three in the doubles competition. Sibel Can and Paula Gonzalez got back in the win column with a 6-4 victory at the second flight to improve to 2-1 on the season. Grace Lin and Briana Maravich paired up for the first time this season and posted a 6-2 victory at the third flight.
Lehigh proceeded to win five of the six singles matches. Gonzalez went 2-0 on the day as she posted a three-set victory at the second flight over Amanda Lanciano to improve to 6-5 on the season, including a mark of 5-3 at the second flight. Gonzalez's doubles partner, Can, also went 2-0 on the day as she defeated Lin Robertson in straight sets at the third flight. Can is now 6-5 overall 4-4 at the third flight.
Lin also went 2-0 on the day following a straight-set victory over Abby Thornton at the fourth flight. Lin improves to 6-5 overall, 6-3 at the fourth flight. Zhong picked up a singles victory over Nicole Eberle in straight sets at the fifth flight to improve to 5-6 overall, 4-5 at the fifth spot. Maravich also capped off a Sunday sweep with a straight-set singles victory at the sixth flight as she improves to 5-6 overall, including a 5-4 mark at the sixth flight.
The Mountain Hawks return to action next weekend in a two-match home stand beginning with Temple on Saturday and finishing with La Salle on Sunday.
