Lehigh Takes Second at Bucknell Tune-Up in Final Meet before PLC

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field team took home second place out of eight teams on Friday evening at the Bucknell Tune-Up, the team's final meet before next weekend's Patriot League Championships. Bucknell won the meet with 213.9 points, followed by Lehigh (172.2) and Bloomsburg (38.9). The Mountain Hawks won eight individual events at the meet courtesy of freshman Alexis Smith (400m), sophomore Erin Racano (500m), sophomore Sophie Antonioli (800m), sophomore Hannah Bonaguidi (mile), senior Amanda Youngblood (WT), pole vault co-champs Madisyn Hawkins and Kaitlyn Toman, and the 4x400 relay team. Youngblood also added a runner-up showing in the shot put. All told, LU totaled five runner-up finishes and three third place tallies.
Youngblood and Brittany Curtin led the way in a solid showing for Lehigh's throwers, with Youngblood winning the weight throw (PR-16.72m) and also taking second in the shot put (13.48m). Curtin followed behind Youngblood in both events, taking runner-up in the weight throw (16.53m) and finishing fifth in the shot (12.36m). The duo helped Lehigh take four of the top five spots in the weight throw with Paige Grossman (16.16m) taking fourth and Maggie Tarmey (14.89m) placing fifth.
In the pole vault, Toman and Hawkins each cleared the ECAC qualifying mark of 1.65 meters to be co-champions and earn nine team points apiece in the event. Armani Comick paced Lehigh with a third place podium finish in the triple jump. In the high jump, Olivia Reinold, Tyler Bannister and Jordan Otto all tied for fourth in the high jump after clearing 1.55m.
On the track, Lehigh received significant contributions from its hurdlers, where four athletes qualified among the six spots in the finals. After setting new personal records in the prelims, juniors Mariah Kozub and Noreen Byrne took second and third, respectively in the finals. Freshman Maddy Harding finished fifth and Tyler Bannister came in sixth, helping Lehigh earn 17 points in the event.
Freshman Morgan McConnell set a new PR of 26.13 seconds in third place of the 200m dash. Senior Liyala Dickens also scored team points in fifth place (26.42). Smith broke the tape in the 400m dash, setting a new PR of 58.95 seconds for her first individual career win. McConnell followed behind in fifth place and senior Amanda Fischer (1:00.01) also scored a team point in sixth place out of 21.
???????Racano (1:18.48) and Mary Casey (1:18.80) swept the top two spots in the 500m dash to earn 18 team points. Lehigh continued its winning ways in the 800m courtesy of Antonioli who picked up her first collegiate win by crossing the finish line in 2:18.92. Senior Hanna Brosky also scored in the event in fourth place.
In the 1,000m, senior Kristen Lavallee took home second place with a new PR of 3:00.79. Bonaguidi outpaced the field to win the mile in 5:03.20, good enough for a new personal record.
Lehigh also earned a win from their 4x400 relay team as Brosky, Lavallee, Casey and Fischer combined on a winning time of 3:59.51.
The Patriot League Championships will culminate the end of the indoor season for the Mountain Hawks next weekend, taking place Saturday and Sunday February 17-18 at Bucknell's Gerhard Fieldhouse. Check back to Lehighsports.com for a preview leading up to the meet.
