Women's Track And Field Continues Gaining Steam With The Fast Times Before Finals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Â The Lehigh women's track and field team continued its indoor season with the Fast Times Before Finals at Rauch Field House.

Pentathlon
Â
Lehigh had two athletes finish in the top-five in the pentathlon, as senior Tyler Bannister placed third with 3033 points while freshman Carly Carpino finished fifth with 2954 points.

Sprints, Middle and Long Distance
Â
Lehigh saw one runner place in the 60-meter hurdle finals, as Brett DeWeese finished seventh with a time 9.52 second. In the 60-meter dash, freshman Madison Hackman finished eighth overall with a time of 8.10 seconds.

The 200-meter dash saw two Mountain Hawk runners place in the top-10, as sophomore Morgan McConnell finished second with a time of 26.43 seconds while fellow sophomore Alexis Smith finished 10th with a time of 27.22. Lehigh also saw senior Mariah Kozub finish with a time of 27.74 seconds.

Junior Brooke Schaeffer finished first in the 500-meter run, finishing with a time of 1:17:29. Lehigh had two other runners finish in the top-10, as freshman Carly Friend and junior Erin Racano finished seventh and eighth with times of 1:20.87 and 1:21.04 respectively.

In the 1000-meter run, Lehigh took second and third place, with junior Sophioe Antonioli finishing second with a time of 3:01.40 and freshman Hetty McMillan finishing third with a time of 3:03.64.

Relays
Â
Lehigh's "A" squad composed of McConnell, Antonioli, freshman Carly Friend and freshman Aisha Kumar finished third with a time of 4:08.05.

In the 4 x 800-meter relay Lehigh took first through fourth with the top squad, the "D" squad composed of junior Diana Hammerstone, junior Ashleigh Crawford, junior Sydney Brannon and Schaeffer finished with a time of 9:35.57.

Field Events

In the high jump, Lehigh saw three jumpers four jumpers finish in the top-10. Bannister and sophomore Noa Levy finished tied for second with marks of 1.60m (5'3''), junior Jordan Otto finished fourth with a mark of 1.55m (5'1'') and senior Olivia Reinold finished ninth with a mark of 1.50m (4'11'').

DeWeese finished seventh with a mark of 5.20m (17'0.75'') in the long jump to set the bar for the Mountain Hawks. Junior Cate Shippee was close behind, finishing 12th with a mark of 4.92m (16'1.75''). Freshman Bree Smentkowski rounded out the top-20 finishers for Lehigh with a 19th place finish and a mark of 4.78m (15'8.25''). In the triple jump, Shippee was the highest finisher for Lehigh with a mark of 10.67m (35'0.25''.

The Mountain Hawks saw three pole vaulters finish in the top-five in the pole vault, with senior Kaitlyn Toman and sophomore Madisyn Hawkins tied for second with a mark of 3.50m (11'5.75''). Junior Caitlin Reverand finished fifth for Lehigh with a mark of 3.35m (10'11.75'').

Lehigh saw success in the shot put as well, with sophomore Brittany Curtin finishing first and blowing away the competition with a mark of 13.25m (43'5.75''). Freshman Jenna Reinheimer rounded out the top-10 finishers with a 10th place finish and a mark of 10.73m (35'2.50'').

Curtin was also a force in the weight throw competition, finishing first with a mark of 16.62m (54'6.50'') while sophomore Maggie Tarmey placed second with a mark of 16.02m (52'6.75''). Reinheimer took home sixth place with a mark of 14.45m (47'5'') while freshman Veronica Meyer rounded out the top-20 finishers for the Mountain Hawks with a 17th place finish and a mark of 11.85m (38'10.50'')

The next time Lehigh sees action will be January 12, 2019 as it hosts the Angry Birds Meet at Rauch Fieldhouse.
