Mountain Hawks Look To Avenge Last Season's Loss To Sacred Heart On Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Mountain Hawks enter the month of December hosting the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Saturday after posting one of the best Novembers in recent program history, going 6-2 to end the first month of action. In its most recent contest, Lehigh took down Cornell by a score of 67-54 on November 29, resulting in the sixth win of the year to come by 10 or more points.
Against Cornell, junior Cameryn Benz put up career numbers in scoring, dropping 23 points to establish a new career high. Benz also had three rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and four steals. Along with Benz, Lehigh saw junior Camryn Buhr (14), sophomore Mary Clougherty (12) and junior Gena Grundhoffer (10) all hit double figures in scoring. Buhr was two rebounds off from recording her second double-double of the season, as she brought in eight rebounds against the Big Red.
Lehigh has seen four players reach double figures in scoring twice this season; with the first coming against Central Connecticut State on November 10.
December will be a short month for the Mountain Hawks, as after the Pioneers, Lehigh will host LIU Brooklyn on December 20 before engaging in just the third road non-league game of the year against Notre Dame on December 30.
Buhr continues to lead the Mountain Hawks in scoring, averaging 13.6 points a game while scoring at least 10 points in every game this season. Junior Hannah Hedstrom is the team leader in three categories, as she leads the Mountain Hawks in assists per game (3.3), steals per game (2.0) and minutes per game (29.8).
The Pioneers are coming into this game 3-4 on the season after losing to Stony Brook 73-58 at home in their most recent contest. Sacred Heart has also lost to UMass, Providence and Monmouth while picking up wins against Siena, New Hampshire and Hofstra. Erin Storck and Katherine Haines lead the team with 12.8 points per game each, while Adrianne Hagood (11.9) and Candice Leatherwood (10.1) both average double figure in scoring as well. Haines is also the team's leading rebounder with 8.8 rebounds per game.
As a team, Sacred Heart averages 62 points per game while shooting 32.1 percent from the field. The Pioneers are also shooting 69.9 percent from the free throw line while averaging 30.9 rebounds per game and 10.6 assists per game. The Pioneers are coming off a 14-17 season where they went 9-9 in the Northeast Conference. Sacred Heart also picked up a win over the Mountain Hawks last season, defeating Lehigh 65-55 at home. In the loss to Sacred Heart, Grundhoffer recorded a double-double against the Pioneers with 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Mountain Hawks in both categories. Buhr (13) and Bernadette Devaney (12) both recorded double figures in scoring for the Mountain Hawks as well.
Overall in the series against Sacred Heart, Lehigh controls a narrow advantage, with the Mountain Hawks up 6-5. Out of the last five meetings, Sacred Heart has won three, with the two wins for Lehigh coming back-to-back in 2014 and 2016.
