Mountain Hawks Host Blackbirds For Final Non-League Home Game

12/19/2018 4:30:00 PM | Women's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's basketball team resumes action as they host the Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn at Stabler Arena on December 20 at 6 p.m.

A win against the Blackbirds would move Lehigh to 8-2 on the year. Lehigh has started the year 8-2 three times in its history, with two of those coming under coach Troyan (09-10, 14-15) and one under coach McGraw (85-86).

The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 70-66 victory over the Sacred Heart Pioneers on December 8 where three Mountain Hawks scored 10 or more points including junior Camryn Buhr's team-high 12 points. Junior Cameryn Benz and senior Hailey Pascoe both scored 10 points each in the win.

Lehigh got out to a red-hot start against the Pioneers; scoring 28 points in the first quarter, the most points this season the Mountain Hawks have scored in the opening frame. Pascoe and Benz acted as the catalysts for the huge opening run, with Pascoe scoring eight points while going 3-for-4 shooting while Benz put up seven points and went 3-for-3 from the field.

Going with a balanced approach this season; Lehigh has seen three or more players reach double figures in scoring in eight of nine games this season while seeing four players reaching double figures in scoring twice this season.

This will be the 10th meeting between the Mountain Hawks and the Blackbirds, with Lehigh leading the all-time series 5-4. LIU Brooklyn has won the last two meeting including a close game at the Barclays Center last season that saw the Blackbirds win 72-69.

LIU Brooklyn is currently winless on the year, coming in 0-9. The Blackbirds most recently went up against the Highlanders of NJIT where they lost 72-51. The Blackbirds have had quality chances to clinch their first win of the year, as they lost to Grand Canyon University 65-62 and UMass-Lowell 69-64.

So far this season, Jeydah Johnson leads the Blackbirds in scoring with 14.0 points per game, playing and starting in all nine games. Brandy Thomas is close being Johnson with 13.5 points per game, and also leads the Blackbirds in rebounds with 12.3 rebounds per game.

Finishing 13-18 overall and 8-10 in the NEC last season, LIU Brooklyn clinched a close game against the Mountain Hawks at the Barclays Center last season, defeating Lehigh 72-69.

The Blackbirds were 1-3 against the Patriot League last year, with losses coming against Lafayette, Army and Navy.
