BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's basketball team returns home after defeating the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils on the road 88-62 on Saturday as they host the Monmouth Hawks Tuesday, November 13 for the annual Education Day. With the win against Central Connecticut, head coach Sue Troyan moves to 1-0 against the Blue Devils.
The Mountain Hawks come into Education Day on a two-game winning streak, with their most recent victory coming on the road against the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut where they took flight and came home with an 88-62 victory. Lehigh has started the year 2-0 twelve times in program history, with the last coming in the 2015-16 season. Scoring has been by committee for the Lehigh, with at least three players hitting double figures in scoring the last two games.
Lehigh has defeated opponents by 20 or more in its last two games. The last time Lehigh began its season 2-0 and had won by 20 or more points was back in the 1975-76 season where Lehigh beat Centenary 80-24 and Allentown (Now DeSales) 70-34.
Senior Hailey Pascoe has been one of those Mountain Hawks to lead the scoring, scoring 12 points against Kutztown and 14 against Central Connecticut, Pascoe leads Lehigh in points per game with 13 in the early season. Freshman Emma Grothaus has been a machine on the boards through the first two games, with a team-high 9.5 rebounds per game. Against Kutztown, she recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Grothaus was also named as the Patriot League Player of the Week by the league office on Monday.
Against teams from the MAAC last season, Lehigh went 2-0, as they beat Monmouth and Fairfield.
Lehigh is 6-3 all-time on Education Day, as they took care of business against NJIT last year, defeating the Highlanders 66-50.
ALL-TIME VS. MONMOUTH
A yearly staple the past four years, Lehigh has won four of the last five meetings. Monmouth got the better of Lehigh in the beginning of the series, winning six of the first seven meetings between the two schools.
IF LEHIGH WINS
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
The Hawks of Monmouth come in 0-2 after losing to Patriot League foe Bucknell 70-32 in their season opener and 73-67 to East Carolina.
Monmouth is currently led by Sierra Green in scoring with 10.5 points per game. Green is currently the only player averaging scoring in double figures with the next closest being Lucy Thomas with 8.5 points per game.
As a team, Monmouth is only shooting .287 from the field while seeing better success from beyond the arc with a three-point shooting percentage of .364.
Look to the second quarter to be an explosive one for the Hawks, as 37 points have been scored in that quarter, a team-high with 16 points scored in the first, 27 in the third and 19 in the fourth. The second quarter also sees Monmouth letting up the most points per quarter with 48 points left up through its first two games.
