PRINCETON, N.J. — Day 2 of the Big Al Invitational at Princeton University on Saturday was a lot of the same story for the Lehigh men's swimming and diving team. Like Friday, many records were broken and a swimmer qualified for the U.S. Winter National Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
Like his previous day, junior Walker Wilson had himself yet another dominant performance in the pool, breaking a school record for the second day in a row. On Friday, Wilson set a new Lehigh school record for his 4:25.96 in the 500 freestyle race and qualified for the U.S. Winter National Championships with a 20.56 in the 50 free.
On Saturday, the hubbub completely surrounded the 200 back event, with Joe Huber and Matt Feryo both getting the school record with times of 1:49.04 and 1:49.39, respectively. The record was previously held by Tom Gilbert with a 1:49.42 in 2007. Moments later, Wilson broke Huber's record in the very next heat with a 1:48.93, smashing the original record by almost an entire second.
Freshman Glenn Lasco continued to swim at a high level, breaking his second freshman record of the weekend, this time with a 44.91 in the 100 free event. The record was originally held by Greg Giannella in 2018 with a 45.81.
Lasco also broke a freshman record on Friday that stood for 18 years with his 1:39.60 in the 200 yard freestyle. The record was previously held by Bing Padmansankha who swam to a 1:39.22 in 2000.
The men finished the meet with a team score of 627.5. The men will be back in the pool next Friday at Lafayette at 6 p.m. in Easton for The Rivalry.
