BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh rowing team held its fourth annual Class Day on Saturday on the Lehigh River in Allentown, Pa. The seniors took home the win, with the sophomores finishing second in a successful all-around effort to wrap up the fall season.
Â
"I thought the team showed up and was ready to compete against each other, which was great to see," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "There was a light spirit about the day, but with a commitment to the competition."
Â
The day saw two heats, with the sophomores beating the freshmen in the first heat before the seniors topped the juniors in the second heat. The seniors went on to beat the sophomores in the grand final while the juniors topped thee freshmen in the petite final.
Â
"The fact that we had a group of classes that were close in competition and it wasn't just the upperclassmen winning every race says a lot about where the program is headed," said Conley.
Â
There was also an exhibition race with mixed class fours racing against a masters novice boat from the Allentown community.
Â
In the end, Saturday was a great way to end the fall season and propel the Mountain Hawks into winter training.
Â
"The seniors won on the day, so it was great to see them be able to step up and lead the team from the top," said Conley. "For us going into winter, it bodes well for the leadership that we have on the team, to get us through the next couple months which can be challenging."
