BOSTON – The Lehigh rowing team kicked off its weekend at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday, competing in the Women's Club Fours and Eights. In addition, the Mountain Hawks had an Alumnae Eight boat row. The Head of the Charles is in the largest two-day regatta in the world.
"The results say we have more room to grow, but I'm really happy with the progress from one year to the next for this group to be getting closer and closer to the top teams in these categories," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "We definitely showed up to race. The four struggled a little with the rhythm, but fought and that's at the core of what we need. The eight had their best race of the year so far and that's all we can ask."
Lehigh's Women's Club Fours began the day by finishing 35th (out of 52 crews) with a time of 20:38.609. The Women's Club Eights placed 21st (out of 33 crews) with a time of 18:00.383.
"The eight really stepped up their game and came barreling out of the start aggressively," said Conley. "It's a long race, but they executed the race plan well and just lost to better crews today."
The Mountain Hawks' Alumnae boat had a strong performance as well, finishing 34th with a time of 20:29.657.
"It's great to see alums staying connected to the program and the sport, and having fun," said Conley.
The Mountain Hawks wrap up their weekend at the Head of the Charles Sunday when the Men's Fours will compete at 2:55 p.m.
