Lehigh Places Eighth in Crowded Field at Dr. Sander Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Lehigh women's track and field team took home an eighth place finish out of 33 teams on Friday at the Dr. Sander Invitational at the Armory Track. Sophomore Ashleigh Crawford took runner-up and freshman Susie Poore finished third in the 3,000m run, both meeting ECAC qualifying marks. Junior Clare Severe landed on the podium in third with an ECAC mark in the 800m run, with teammate Brooke Schaeffer just missing the podium in fourth place, but also hitting an ECAC mark. Junior Kaitlyn Toman placed fourth by clearing 3.75m in the vault to match her own school record.
Sophomores Erin Racano (1:18.29) and Mary Casey (1:18.30) finished back-to-back in 12th and 13th places, respectively, in the 500m dash, both with new personal bests. Severe and Schaeffer both hit ECAC qualifying times in the 800m run, with Severe (2:12.04) landing on the podium in third place and Schaeffer (PR-2:13.05) finishing fourth. Sophomore Jenn Mickens placed eighth in the 1,000m in 3:00.40.
In the mile, Hannah Bonaguidi (17th/5:05.83) and Diana Hammerstone (18th/5:06.51) placed back-to-back with new personal records to land in the top 20 of a 52-person race. Crawford (9:53.54) and Poore's (10:02.11) podium finishes led Lehigh in the 3,000m, with Crawford hitting an ECAC qualifier. In the 5,000m, Stacie Nadel was the lone LU representative and placed 15th with a new personal best time of 18:08.60.
In the field events, Toman cleared 3.75 meters in the vault for the second consecutive week to tie her own school benchmark that she set at last weekend's dual meet vs. Lafayette. Friday's mark was good enough to land her in fourth place out of 20 competitors.
In the throws, senior Amanda Youngblood cracked the top 10 with her eighth place shot put (12.84m). Youngblood also led the way for Lehigh in the weight throw at 16.02m. She was followed in succession by three teammates in Brittany Curtin (10th/15.64m), Paige Grossman (11th/15.17m) and Maggie Tarmey (12th/14.98m).
Lehigh had two multis score team points with junior Tyler Bannister finishing seventh and freshman Noa Levy taking eighth. Bannister's pentathlon was highlighted by her second place showing in the high jump as she finished with 2,879 points. Levy finished with 2,809 points and PR-ed in four of her five events (800m, 60h, HJ, SP), led by a runner-up showing with a PR of 1.60m in the high jump.
