Lehigh Men Notch Big Win Overall Bucknell in Home Finale

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving pulled off a historical upset and ended a streak of six-straight losses to Bucknell with a 155-133 victory over the Bison Saturday in Jacobs Pool. The Mountain Hawks last defeated Bucknell in the 2009-10 season and are now 17-38 all-time against the Bison.

Lehigh closed out its home and Patriot League slate by winning nine total events on the day, including both relay events and both diving events.

The Mountain Hawks started the day in winning fashion as Dean Shafritz, Tyler Christ, Jimmy Davey and Greg Giannella combined to place first in the 200 medley relay with a top time of 1:35.15. Lehigh picked up more valuable points as Joe Huber, Connor Guilfoyle, Max Goldenberg and Kian O'Brien teamed up to place third with a time of 1:38.41.

Kevin Fleck kept the momentum going into the individual events as he placed first in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:07.88 for his first-career win in the event. Matt Feryo placed third with a time of 16:47.55.

Walker Wilson notched his fifth-straight win in the 200 freestyle and his six overall this season when he touched the wall in 1:41.65. O'Brien placed third and Teddy Smith came in fourth.

Lehigh had another strong showing in the 50 freestyle, taking the top-two spots. Zach Tieke led the way with a time of 21.51 to clinch his fifth win of the season. Giannella placed second with a time of 21.59.

The Mountain Hawks earned big points on the boards as freshman Tyler Keller swept the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Keller compiled a winning score of 256.42 in the 1-meter and a personal-best score of 258.38 to win the 3-meter.

The Lehigh sprinters dominated the 100 free, claiming the top-three spots. Wilson led the group with a time of 46.96, while Tieke placed second and Giannella came in third.

Wilson continued to dominate the day as he racked up his third win of the day and his fifth of the season in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:40.21. Fleck came in second with a time of 4:40.75.

Tieke came up big once again for Lehigh, notching his second win of the day and his fourth of the season in the 100 butterfly with a winning time of 50.92. Goldenberg also scored points as he placed third.

The Mountain Hawks closed out the day by sweeping the relay events as Wilson, Tieke, O'Brien and Giannella combined to win the 200 free relay with a time of 1:24.42. The second relay of Shafritz, Goldenberg, Smith and Daniel Brooks scored points as they placed third with a time of 1:28.06.

Lehigh will close out the regular season next Saturday with a trip to Seton Hall for a dual meet starting at 1 p.m.
