BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's basketball team will wrap up a stretch of five-of-six games on the road when it travels to Bucknell on Thursday to face the Bison. Opening tipoff of the 2017 Patriot League Championship Game rematch is set for 7 p.m. at Sojka Pavilion. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 92-81 loss at Boston University on Monday in a game which saw Lehigh score just 25 points in the first half, but respond with 56 in the second.
Â
The Mountain Hawks trailed by 24 at the half and fell behind by as many as 27 early in the second, but Lehigh pulled within 15 (62-47) with 11:18 still remaining. The Terriers responded and eventually reopened a 20-point lead. Trailing by 19 (80-61) with 3:32 on the clock, the Mountain Hawks outscored Boston University 18-8 over the next 2:27. Lehigh knocked down five three-pointers in that span (three by junior Lance Tejada and two by senior Kahron Ross). Ross' second pulled his side to within nine at 88-79, but the Terriers hit enough of their free throws down the stretch to wrap up the win.
Â
One game after scoring 19 second-half points vs. Holy Cross, Tejada scored 17 in the second half on Monday, knocking down 5-of-8 from long range over the final 20 minutes. It marked his seventh game this season with 4+ made treys as he's shooting 50.5 percent from long distance on the season (47-of-93). Sophomore Pat Andree also caught fire in the second half, hitting 4-of-6 threes in the second to finish 5-of-9 for the game and 19 points, Andree's fifth straight game with double-figure points. He's averaging 15.4 points in that five-game stretch. Meanwhile, Ross added 12 points and four assists while junior Kyle Leufroy had nine points, six rebounds and a season-high five assists. Leufroy now has nine assists over the last two games. Classmate Caleb Sedore played key minutes for the first time in his career, seeing time in both the first and second halves, grabbing a defensive rebound.
Â
In the end, Lehigh connected on 12-of-23 second-half three-pointers to finish 14-of-32 for the game (43.8 percent). This came just one game after tying a Patriot League record for made threes. Along with its 15-of-26 from distance against Holy Cross, the Mountain Hawks are now 29-of-58 (50 percent) over their last two games. Lehigh also eclipsed 80 points in back-to-back games for the first time since Nov. 17 and 19 (91-90 overtime win over Siena followed by 95-70 win over Eastern University).
Â
Monday's game in Boston was a rematch of the 2017 Patriot League Semifinals. Like last postseason, Lehigh will now travel to Bucknell three days later. Thursday will wrap up a challenging road swing which saw the Mountain Hawks play five-of-six games on the road, including the first three-of-four in Patriot League play. Three of the league road contests are against the teams picked ahead of Lehigh in the preseason poll - Navy (picked third), Boston University (picked second) and Bucknell (picked first).
Â
Bucknell is 9-8 on the season following a come-from-behind, overtime win at Lafayette Monday. The Bison were outscored 38-31 in the first half, but came back for an 80-75 victory. The Bison are 3-1 in Patriot League play, with their lone loss coming at home to Boston University. Senior Zach Thomas leads Bucknell in scoring (21.9) and rebounding (9.5) while classmate Nana Foulland averages 16.6 and 6.5, respectively. Another senior, Stephen Brown, is third on the Bison in scoring (13.0) and leads the team with 85 assists in 17 games (5.0 average). Bucknell enjoyed an up-and-down nonleague season, winning games over Atlantic 10 foes Richmond and La Salle while finishing 6-7 in nonleague action against a very challenging schedule. The Bison lead the Patriot League in scoring (81.8 per game) while allowing the most (80.6). Bucknell has been without two key players for several weeks due to injury - Avi Toomer and Kimbal Mackenzie.
Â
Lehigh has won eight of the last 13 meetings against Bucknell to pull within 102-67 in the all-time series. Last season, Lehigh earned regular season victories at Bucknell (82-71) and Lehigh (79-71), but fell in the Patriot League Championship Game at Sojka Pavilion (81-65). The Mountain Hawks have won five of their last eight games at Soja; Lehigh stands 7-11 all-time at Sojka Pavilion while the rest of the league is just 19-101. Overall, 10 of the last 15 meetings between Lehigh and Bucknell (regardless of location) have been decided by seven points or fewer. Four of the five that have been greater than seven points have been Lehigh victories. Bucknell is Lehigh's second-most played rival of all-time, only behind Lafayette.
Â
Following Thursday's game, Lehigh returns home on Sunday, Jan. 14 to host American at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased online at LehighTickets.com.
