Women’s Cross Country Set for Showdown with Lafayette

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's cross country team will compete at home for the second straight week on Friday when they welcome Lafayette to the Goodman Campus Course for the two school's annual dual meet.
Last year, Lehigh defeated the rival Leopards by a score of 18-44 at the Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex for their 12th straight win in the rivalry series dating back to 2005. This year will mark the first time the two have squared off in a dual on the Goodman Campus since 2014.
Lehigh opened up its season by hosting the Lehigh Invitational last Friday, where they raced to a third place finish (73 points) out of 10 teams, finishing behind West Virginia and Rutgers. Junior Stacie Nadel (22:04.08) finished fifth overall to lead the way for the Brown and White while freshman Hannah Knudsen (22:12.41) made her collegiate debut with an eighth place overall finish. Sophomores Diana Hammerstone (12th/22:32.40) and Jenn Mickens, (21st/23:08.40) plus freshman Elyse Barkstrom (27th/23:16.22) rounded out Lehigh's the top five.
Lafayette opened up 2017 at the Monmouth Kick-off last weekend, where the women finished third overall (124 points) in a 4K race, finishing behind Monmouth (77) and Seton Hall (92). The Leopards placed three runners in the top 20 overall, including junior Caroline Harmon, who finished third.
The Rivalry meet will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the men's 8K race, followed by the women at 6:15. Live results will be available at Mitchelltiming.com and fans can follow @LehighTFXC on Twitter and @lehighsports on Snapchat for live updates throughout the meet.
