Four active Mountain Hawks to compete at World Team Trials in Nebraska

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four active Lehigh wrestlers and two others with ties to the Lehigh wrestling program are headed to Lincoln, Neb., to compete in the UWW Senior and Junior World Team Trials, set for Friday and Saturday at the University of Nebraska's Devaney Center.

NCAA Champion Darian Cruz will compete in the Senior World Team Trials at 57 kg. Cruz, who qualified for the World Team Trials by way of his NCAA title, last competed at the Northeast Regional Freestyle Tournament at East Stroudsburg in late April, going 3-0 to win his bracket.

On the junior side, sophomore Andrew Price and freshmen Nick Farro and Jordan Wood will represent the Brown and White. All three wrestlers last competed at the UWW Junior Freestyle Nationals in Las Vegas in late April, with Wood finishing second at 120 kg, Farro placing fifth at 66 kg and Price finishing eighth at 84 kg. Farro is expected to compete 60 kg at the Junior World Team Trials.

Wood will be bidding to make his second straight junior world team as he represented the United States in Macon, France last August.

In addition to the four active Mountain Hawks, who will be competing for the Lehigh Valley Wrestling Club, former Lehigh national champion Zack Rey '12 (125 kg) and Mario Mason (66 kg) will also compete at the Senior World Team Trials for the LVWC. Rey, a 2011 NCAA Champion for Lehigh, finished second at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas in late April and will be bidding to make his second world team. He competed at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas.

Action in Nebraska begins Friday with the Junior World Team Trials, at 10 a.m. (CT). The Senior World Team Trials will be held on Saturday, with action also beginning at 10 a.m. (CT). Both trials formats feature a full tournament throughout the day with the winner of the challenge tournament wrestling in the best-of-three finals series against the U.S. Open/Junior Nationals champion for the world team berths.

The UWW Junior World Championships are set for August 1-6 in Tampere, Finland, while the Senior World Championships will take place August 21-26 in Paris, France.
