Â
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -Â Enjoying impressive success academically and athletically, Lehigh women's rowing junior Elise Fredericks has been named to the 11-member Academic All-Patriot League team, as announced on Thursday. Fredericks owns an impressive 3.79 cumulative grade point average as a double major in supply chain management and marketing, all while leading the Varsity Eight to success on the water.
Â
Fredericks rowed in the one seat in the Varsity Eight, which finished fifth overall at the Patriot League Championship with a grand final time of 7:31.560 - finishing ahead of Bucknell. Fredericks and the Varsity Eight also defeated Holy Cross in the regular season for a second straight year after previously not beating the Crusaders since 2007. The crew defeated perennial Division II National Championship contender Mercyhurst by more than 10 seconds in a dual race, while finishing first in the River Cup with a time of 8:13.00, well ahead of Philadelphia University in second (8:26.03) and Lafayette in third (8:33.99). Fredericks and the Varsity Eight reached the grand final at the Kerr Cup as well, which included defeating Villanova, Loyola and La Salle in the heat.
Â
In the classroom, Fredericks was a member of the Dean's List following each of her first four semesters for a semester GPA of 3.6 or higher. A member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll following each of her first two seasons, she has garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award higher following every semester as well.
Â
The Mountain Hawks finished the 2017 Patriot League Championship with 26 points, a school record and eight more than any previous league championship in program history. Lehigh tied Holy Cross for sixth place overall, finishing ahead of Colgate and Loyola and just seven points behind fifth place (MIT), eight out of fourth place (Bucknell) and 10 behind third place (Georgetown). The Mountain Hawks' Varsity Eight and Varsity Four reached their grand finals, each finishing fifth, while the Second Varsity Eight won the petite final in convincing fashion, by more than 24 seconds.
