Avery and Patrick Capture Weekly Awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior high jumper Courtney Avery and freshman thrower Hannah Patrick have both been recognized with weekly awards from the Patriot League. Avery has been honored as the Field Athlete of the Week, while Patrick was tabbed as the league's Rookie of the Week. The honor is the first weekly award for both student-athletes this outdoor season.

Avery leapt a season-best 1.80 meters to win the high jump at the Greyhound Invitational on Saturday at Moravian College. The jump matched Avery's own school record that she set at last spring's NCAA First Round meet. The leap is tied for 12th this season among NCAA East Region qualifiers and ranks tied for 20th overall in the country. She also holds the top four high jumps in the Patriot League this season, being the only jumper to clear 1.68m so far this season.

Patrick collects the first weekly award of her career after placing third out of 31 competitors in the javelin at this past weekend's Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell. Patrick's personal-record toss of 44.44m ranks third in the Patriot League this season, and is the highest mark put up by an underclassman in the event. The mark also sits 37th on the NCAA East descending order list and is also an ECAC qualifying mark. Patrick has now landed on the podium in all four meets she has competed in this season, including one win and a pair of runner-up finishes.

Lehigh will compete again this weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational and the Virginia Challenge.
