BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh rowing team is set to square off against archrival Lafayette on Saturday as part of the annual River Cup. The race will begin at 9 a.m. and take place on Lake Nockamixon in Quakertown, Pa. The Mountain Hawks look to continue their all-time success against the Leopards, which included the women's squad sweeping the events last season.

"The team's goal is to simply win as many events as possible," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "They know the process to do it, so it comes back to focus and actually believing it and doing it."

Last weekend, Lehigh competed at the Murphy Cup as the Men's Varsity Eight and Men's Junior Varsity Eight each reached the Pettit Finals. The Mountain Hawks look to continue their improvement after two weekends of spring races.

"We need to execute," said Conley. "It's very simple. Lafayette has some fast boats, but I think if we can just simply execute from the time we grab hold of the boat until we return it to the rack, we will find ourselves where we think we should be."

With any Lehigh vs. Lafayette matchup comes a lot of excitement.

"The team has been really hyping this year's River Cup," said Conley. "They've publicized it everywhere and are really looking forward to the challenge of returning the cup back to Lehigh."

The River Cup is a celebration of Lehigh Rowing, past and present, with many alumni annually returning for the race.

"The team tries to make this a big event," said Conley. "We've had as many as 100 alumni return in past years and with this year being our 29th year as a sport at Lehigh I think it's only going to grow."

Following Saturday's regatta, the Mountain Hawks return to action at the Kerr Cup on Saturday, Apr. 15 in Philadelphia.

"Every day, we are learning," said Conley. "We are learning about rowing, leadership, racing and how to be better student-athletes. The team has developed and I like the changes I'm seeing. Change can be difficult for some teams, but I like how our team deals with difficult situations and it always makes us stronger in every way. It's exciting."
