Lehigh Slugs Saint Peter's in 10-3 Victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks rebounded from an anemic offensive performance in a loss on Wednesday with seven extra-base hits in a 10-3 victory over Saint Peter's on Thursday at J. David Walker field.
Lehigh (8-13) slugged a season-high .541 as a team as seven of its 12 hits were of the extra-base variety. Chris Kersey posted two triples on the day, which is the team's first multi-triple game of the season. The Mountain Hawks once again found success with the long ball as they hit two more home runs on the day to bring their multi-home run game total to nine on the season. Lehigh now has eight homers in the last four games and ranks among the nation's best with 1.19 home runs per game.
The Mountain Hawk pitching and defense held Saint Peter's (0-6) to just six total hits on the day. Lehigh has held its opponent to seven or less hits in each of the last four games.
Lehigh got on the board first with two runs in the second when Ryan Malloy roped a two-RBI double into the left field corner to drive in Jeff Shanfeldt and Kersey. The Mountain Hawks broke open a 7-0 lead with five more runs in the third inning. James Bleming and Jacen Nalesnik began the inning with back-to-back home runs and Kersey tacked on two more runs later in the inning with the first of his two triples on the day.
The Peacocks put up two runs in the fourth and added another in the fifth, but Lehigh maintained the lead with runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Lehigh pitching staff held Saint Peter's off the board from the sixth inning on and only allowed one Peacock hit and two baserunners in the final four innings.
The Mountain Hawks have completed six games on their 11-game home stand and own a record of 5-1 during that span. Lehigh will open Patriot League play on Saturday and begin a four-game weekend series with Bucknell. Game one of Saturday's doubleheader is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
