BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball team will look to snap a two-game skid when the Mountain Hawks travel to the Philadelphia to take on the University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. from Meiklejohn Stadium. This game was moved up from its original Wednesday afternoon slot.
Lehigh sits at 3-11 on the year after dropping six of its last seven games including two losses in the Strikeout Cancer Classic hosted by Seton Hall on Sunday. In the first game against Manhattan, the Mountain Hawks fell into an early 7-0 hole in the first inning and the Jaspers never looked back as they cruised to a 16-0 victory. The Lehigh offense continued to struggle in the second game of the doubleheader as the Mountain Hawks once again failed to drive in a run in a 3-0 loss to Seton Hall. The Mountain Hawks put 11 runners on base with 10 of those runners left stranded and had five runners in scoring position.
The offense will look to get back on track in Tuesday's matchup. Senior Anthony Rinaldi leads the team in batting average (.370), hits (20) and doubles (6). Fellow classmate Jacen Nalesnik has chipped in team highs of four homers, 12 runs batted in and 15 runs scored.
Penn enters Tuesday with a 2-8 overall record on the year. The Quakers salvaged the final game of a three-game set against Marist on Sunday to pick up their second win this season. Chris Hearn and Sean Phelan anchor the team offensively. Hearn leads the team with a .364 batting average, while Phelan has a team-high 13 hits. On the mound, Mike Reitcheck has allowed only 10 hits in 18.1 innings of work. He has yet to surrender an earned run this year.
Penn leads the all-time series with a 78-32-3 mark against Lehigh. Last spring, the Quakers beat the Mountain Hawks 11-4 at Legacy Park.
Following Tuesday's game, Lehigh will return to action on Saturday for a doubleheader against NJIT. The first game is set to start at noon while the second game is slated for a 2:30 p.m. start.
