BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's lacrosse team looks to bounce back from a slim 6-4 loss to No. 11/13 Army West Point when it remains home to host archrival Lafayette on Saturday. The game is presented by Yianni's Taverna. The Mountain Hawks' defense stood out for a second straight game, holding a strong Army offense to a season-low six goals after averaging 13.40 coming in.

Army scored three of its goals in a 37-second span in the second quarter, taking advantage of consecutive Lehigh faceoff violations for some quick strikes. The Mountain Hawks held the Black Knights scoreless for long stretches of 17:57, 24:21 and 11:48, holding Army to just four even strength goals all game. Sophomore Craig Chick helped lead the charge with eight groundballs and four caused turnovers to up his season totals to 27 (second on the team) and 18 (tied for No. 1 in the nation in caused turnovers per game). Chick is rapidly approaching 100 career groundballs (currently owning 87). Classmate Eddie Bouhall collected four groundballs to eclipse 50 in his career while sophomore Matt Rimol had a groundball and career-high tying two caused turnovers.

Lehigh's offense struggled to get much going and when the Mountain Hawks got shots off, Army goaltender A.J. Barretto was there to make the save. He finished with 12 saves on 16 shots across from Lehigh sophomore goalie Chris Kiernan, who was also strong, stopping 10-of-16 shots sent his way. Sophomore Andrew Pettit led the offense with two goals, his sixth straight game to begin the season with multiple goals. Senior Matt Raposo had a goal and assist, junior John Mehok scored a second-quarter goal and sophomore Tristan Rai dished an assist. Pettit's second goal gave Lehigh a 3-1 second-quarter advantage, but Army's three goal in 37-second surge began a 4-0 run to take a 5-3 lead. It proved too much for the Mountain Hawks to overcome.

Lehigh will be facing a Lafayette team coming off one of its biggest wins in recent memory. Last Saturday, the Leopards defeated Navy, 9-8 behind a hat trick from Luke Smith. Lafayette went up 9-5 late in the third quarter, the Midshipmen responded with three fourth-quarter goals, but couldn't come all the way back. Last season, Lehigh earned an 11-6 win at Lafayette while two years ago, the Mountain Hawks pulled out a thrilling 11-10 win at home to clinch a Patriot League Tournament berth.

Lafayette picked up its first win last Saturday vs. Navy, beating the Midshipmen 9-8. The Leopards scored two quick goals and would never trail, improving to 1-5 on the season and 1-2 in Patriot League play. Prior to that game, Lafayette fell at Michigan (17-6), Wagner (9-8), vs. Loyola (18-5), at Sacred Heart (14-10) and at Army West Point (14-4). Scott McAvoy lead the team in goals (11) and points (13) while Eric Joseph owns nine points (four goals, five assists) and Connar Dehnert has eight (three goals, five assists). Chris Adamo leads the team with 23 groundballs, Erik Cannon has a team-leading 10 caused turnovers and faceoff specialist Michael Sullivan has won 46.3 percent (63-of-136) with 17 groundballs. Jonathan Anastos has started all six games in own, recording a 13.70 goals against average and .494 save percentage.

Lehigh has beaten Lafayette in 15 of its last 16 tries, most recently earning an 11-6 win at Lafayette last season in a game which saw Reid Weber, Billy Oppenheimer and Rai each record hat tricks. Two years ago, the Mountain Hawks picked up a thrilling 11-10 win over Lafayette to help clinch a spot in the Patriot League Tournament. Prior to that one-goal win, Lehigh had won the previous four meetings by seven or more goals. The long-time rivals first met in 1926, a 9-0 Lehigh victory. Lehigh won 10 in a row before the first Lafayette win in 1935.

Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks will hit the road next weekend when they head to Navy on Saturday, Mar. 25. Opening faceoff is set for 11:30 a.m. on CBS Sports Network.
