Warning Wins Title as Mountain Hawks Place Fifth at Patriot League Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Lucas Warning took home the second league title of his career in the shot put on Sunday's final day of the Patriot League Championships. Lehigh finished the championships in fifth place overall with 76 points. Navy captured their fifth straight title with 187 points, and has now won six titles in the last seven years. Army West Point finished second, Boston U. was third and Bucknell finished fourth with 130 points.
Warning's shot put sailed 18.07 meters, the third longest shot put in school history and the longest ever at an indoor Patriot League indoor championship meet. He finished 58 centimeters ahead of the runner-up and concludes the indoor season with the four furthest shot puts in the Patriot League, and the only athlete to throw over 18 meters. The victory was the second of the weekend for the Mountain Hawks, along with Trevor Knowles who set a school record by winning his third straight heptathlon title on Saturday. The duo both represented Lehigh on the All-Patriot League Team, both earning First Team honors.
Lehigh earned its third podium finish of the weekend on Sunday courtesy of freshman Joe Espinal in the 500m dash, who had a solid third place finish with a new personal-best time of 1:04.04.
Lehigh earned points from sophomore Emre Soybas in seventh place of the 400 meter dash with his season-best time of 49.87 seconds. In the 800m, sophomore Clay Stabolepszy earned a team point in eighth place with a season-best of 1:55.63, and junior Christopher Mascetti set a new PR (2:30.38) with his eighth placing showing in the 1,000m.
Freshman Matt Kravitz made his league championship debut on Sunday in the mile, and narrowly missed the podium, but set a new PR of 4:08.40 to place fourth and score five points. Lehigh's top three finishers in the 3K all set new PRs led by Patrick Reilly (8:20.41) scoring in sixth place, Evan Hardy (8:24.89) in 11th place and Jeffrey Kirshenbaum (8:36.03) in 16th.
In the hurdles, junior Fritz Isaac raced his way to a fourth place finish of 8.26 seconds, coming one hundredth of a second shy of the podium. The Mountain Hawks also took home fourth place in the 4x800 relay with Christopher Del Rossi, Matt Clements, Soybas and Tom Troxell turning out an IC4A qualifying time of 3:18.35. In the distance medley relay, the Mountain Hawks were once again awarded five team points for a fourth place finish in the distance medley relay from Mascetti, Espinal, David Fletcher and Ryan Cooney (10:12.10).
In the field events, senior Daniel Reichenbach flew a season-best 14.48 meters to take home fifth place in the triple jump. Junior Michael Gooding set a new PR at 14.14m in ninth place, and Daniel Boardman (13.76m) and Oluwajuwon Owolabi (13.51m) both set season-highs.
Over in the vault, Joey Kelly scored points for the Brown and White by clearing at 4.50 meters to place seventh.
