Greene's Late Tally Lifts Lehigh to League Win at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Lehigh outlasted Navy in a closely-contested Patriot League game on Saturday morning and came away with a 1-0 victory for its first road league win of the season. The Mountain Hawks (7-3-1, 2-1-1) finish the week with a 1-0-1 record in two road league games and hand the Midshipmen (2-9-1, 0-3-1) their third-straight league loss.

Initially ruled an own goal by Navy, the tally was changed to a goal for Alex Greene in the 82nd minute. The play started when Doyle Tuvesson passed into the box where Greene put a touch on the ball, but was tripped up as he was challenged by a Navy defender. Thomas Moore attempted to clear the ball off the six-yard line, but his clearing attempt was deflected into the goal by Greene who swung his foot up in the air while still on the ground.

Lehigh had been pressuring the Mids in the minutes leading up to the goal. Greene had a shot on goal in the 73rd minute and Tuvesson had a chance that was blocked. Kevin Klinkenberg had a quality strike saved in the 78th minute on a follow-up attempt on a corner kick that was saved. The Mountain Hawks kept the pressure on and were eventually rewarded with Greene's tally.

"This was a game where we had a feeling it was going to be very close. Playing at 11 a.m. on the road against a team hungry for their first league win certainly has it challenges," said head coach Dean Koski. "We just had to keep surviving and keep the game close. We managed to get the goal we needed and had a strong performance by Joe Bogan in goal to get a shutout in his first start this season."

Making his first start and appearance in goal for Lehigh since an NCAA Tournament game at Hofstra in 2015, Bogan got the nod on Saturday and recorded his 11th career clean sheet. The senior goalkeeper was tested early as he made a diving save to his right on a shot by Daniel Zaremba in the sixth minute, which helped the veteran settle in. Bogan finished the day with four total saves in his first time back in nearly two years.

The defensive unit as a whole did a good job all day of stifling Navy's attack and clogging up the shooting lanes. The defense's biggest test came at the end when Navy ripped off three corner kicks in the final two minutes. The Mountain Hawks blocked one of Navy's shots and survived a scare when a well-struck shot by Brock Dudley hit the crossbar as it was tailing from right to left.

Now in the heart of its schedule and picking up four points in two road league games, the Mountain Hawks will cap off its current three-game road trip on Tuesday against No. 4 Virginia. Kickoff in Charlottsville, Va. is set for 7 p.m.
