Lehigh Defeats Loyola for First League Win of Season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh posted its first Patriot League win and first home victory of the season with a 161-133 triumph over Loyola on Saturday to improve to 5-0 all-time against the Greyhounds. The Mountain Hawks compiled nine wins in the swimming events on the day, including one relay victory and also posted one diving victory on the day.

Walker Wilson started things off for Lehigh with his first victory in the 1000 freestyle this season at a winning pace of 9:47.41. Greg Gardner placed second with a time of 9:51.29.

Wilson went two-for-two as he racked up a victory in the 200 freestyle for the second time this season. Kevin Fleck also scored points as he placed second and Kian O'Brien came in third.

Jimmy Davey led Lehigh in the 100 backstroke and picked up his first win in the event this season with a season-best time of 53.86. Matt Feryo scored key points as he placed third and Joe Huber placed fourth to also score.

Zach Tieke captured his second victory this season in the 50 freestyle as he posted a time of 21.52. Greg Giannella placed second and scored points with a time of 21.76.

Croldy Veliz captured his first victory of the season by winning he one-meter diving competition with a personal-best score of 232.94.

Lehigh took the top spots in the 100 freestyle with Tieke winning the event for the second time this season at pace of 46.78. Giannella placed second with a time of 47.51.

Wilson posted his third win of the day by posting his first victory of the season in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:53.48. Lehigh swept the top three sports as James Mauk came in second and Feryo placed third.

Lehigh also had strong performances in the 500 freestyle as Fleck won the event for the first time this season with a time of 4:47.02 and Gardner placed second.

Tieke won for the third time on the day with the top time in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.40. Max Goldenberg and Davey picked up key points as they finished third and fourth, respectively.

The Mountain Hawks closed out the day by winning the 400 freestyle relay. Tieke, Giannella, O'Brien and Wilson teamed up for the winning time of 3:07.53.

Lehigh will be back in action on November 17 at home to face rival Lafayette.
