Lehigh Returns to Action with Trips to West Chester, Rider This Weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks will return to the water this weekend following a full week off between competitions. Lehigh hits the road for the first time this season with a dual at West Chester on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a trip to Rider on Saturday for a 1 p.m. meet. Saturday's meet at Rider can be viewed live for free on BroncVision.
 
Lehigh opened the season on October 7 in a home Patriot League dual against Boston University and had a strong showing on both the men's and women's sides. The women opened with a 174.5-125.5 win over the Terriers for the program's first victory against Boston U, while the men fell 166.5-117.5 with a number of solid performances on opening day.
 
The Lehigh women compiled nine individual victories on opening day, swept both relay events, and saw a program and freshman record fall. Freshman diver Megan Fennell broke the overall program and freshman records in the one-meter dive in her first collegiate competition. Sophomore Payton Miles led the women in the pool with two individual victories in the 50 and 100 freestyle, in addition to contributing to wins in the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
 
On the men's side, Walker Wilson had a strong opening day with a victory in the 500 freestyle and contributed to the first place finish in the 200 medley relay. Wilson also grabbed second place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 200 IM. Freshman Greg Gardner posted a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle in his first collegiate meet and Zach Tieke posted the top time in the 50 freestyle for his first victory in 2017-18.
 
The West Chester men are 2-0 on the men's side and were ranked 12th in the CSCAA preseason Division II poll. WCU returns seven male swimmers and divers who qualified for the NCAA Championships last season and has three returning All-Americans.
 
The West Chester women are also off to a 2-0 start to the season and garnered the 10th spot in the CSCAA Division II preseason rankings. The Golden Rams return seven national qualifiers form last year with four All-Americans, including sophomore Georgia Wright, the defending 1000 and 1650 freestyle national champion.
 
Lehigh will face the six-time defending MAAC Champion Rider Broncs on the men's side Saturday. The Broncs were pegged as the MAAC preseason favorites is led by senior Zack Molloy, who holds the record for the 500 (4:22.74), 200 (1:34.84) and 100 (43.74) free events at the MAAC Championships. He is also the two-time defending MAAC Most Outstanding Male Swimmer of the Year. The Broncs also return reigning MAAC Freshman Swimmer of the Meet in Justin Carey, who took home four gold medals and one silver at last year's MAAC Championships.
 
The Rider women were picked second in the MAAC preseason poll. The Broncs are led by sophomore Casey Wrabley, who picked up five top-10 finishes at the event. A pair of Broncs brought home major awards at the event, highlighted by Meg Tomayko being honored as the MAAC Women's Rookie Diver of the Meet.
